A truck on the D1 pushed a car onto a semi-trailer with a tank. One dead and two injured

The accident happened after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at 376.5. km. According to the police spokesman, a truck carrying a historic T 34 tank on a semi-trailer stopped at the roadside first. A car stopped behind it. A truck with a semi-trailer, which was transporting cars, then crashed into it.

“The highway is closed in the direction of Poland. Detour routes lead through Bohumín or Polish Chalupki. We expect that the highway will be closed all morning,” Michalíková informed, adding that they will not provide more details until the relatives of the accident victims have been notified.

Three-car accident on the D1 highway

The spokeswoman for the Moravian-Silesian fire department, Kamila Langerová, said that three units of professional firefighters are responding to the scene. “Traffic is currently being restored in one lane,” said a spokeswoman for the fire department before 10 a.m.

She added that firefighters rescued one person using hydraulic equipment. She was handed over to the rescuers. “They used a sorbent for the leaked operating fluids,” she specified. The accident is being handled by the police.

Paramedics were on the scene in seven minutes

Medical crews from Bohumín, Orlová and air rescuers from Ostrava were dispatched to the accident. “The first paramedics were on the scene within seven minutes of receiving the call to intervene,” said Lukáš Humpl, the spokesman for the Moravian-Silesian rescuers.

He added that the rescuers were unfortunately unable to help one person who remained wedged in the crashed car. But they treated two other men.

“The middle-aged man had to be rescued, he showed signs of impaired consciousness and a state of shock, his life was in direct danger. He suffered multiple injuries. The rescuers put him into artificial sleep, secured his airway and switched to machine-controlled ventilation,” reported Humpl. After the medication was administered, the rescued man was airlifted to the Ostrava University Hospital in critical condition.

“A middle-aged man with a slight injury to his lower limb was also transported to the same medical facility,” explained Humpl.

The tank was going to a military historical event

According to information from Novinek, a T 34/85 tank was transported on a trailer to a military historical event in Bohumín-Kopytov. The organizers ordered it from the military history club for the event. The event takes place on Saturday after noon and commemorates the combat journey of the 1st Czechoslovak tank brigade.

The event is organized by the Czechoslovak legionary community and the Olomouc Technical Museum 1. ČSTOB in cooperation with local volunteer firefighters.

At the end of the Second World War, Kopytov, strategically located, became the center of battles for the state border, during which heavy losses occurred on both sides. For now, according to the organizers, the combat demonstration will be shortened due to the tragedy on the highway.

A rescue helicopter also intervened at the scene of the accident.

A similar accident happened in May 2019 on the Prague ring road, where a bus with prisoners collided with a truck transporting historic tanks. A member of the prison service was killed in the accident and 14 people were injured.
