According to Ukrainska pravda, RIA Novosti only states that he is being prosecuted “under an article of the Criminal Code,” without naming a specific article. Zelensky’s record on the ministry’s website then contains information such as date and place of birth, without mentioning that he is the Ukrainian president. It is also accompanied by a photo of a clean-shaven Zelensky from before the beginning of the Russian invasion.
The head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, is also being prosecuted. Last March, the International Criminal Tribunal issued an arrest warrant for him on the basis of an investigation into war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, for which, according to court prosecutors in Ukraine, he is responsible. It is the first such arrest warrant issued against the leader of a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Although the Russian Ministry of the Interior did not name specific charges against Zelensky, the Kremlin has long termed Kyiv as a “criminal regime.” Recently, representatives of Russia most often talk about terrorist acts by Ukraine, especially in connection with drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
The Kremlin also accuses Kyiv of complicity in the March terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall in the Moscow region, despite the fact that an offshoot of the Islamic State has repeatedly claimed responsibility for it.
