An exotic viper bit a Pilsen breeder

--

“We intervened in the case of a bitten breeder of an exotic snake,” Mária Svobodová, spokeswoman for the regional rescue service, told Novinkám.

“Due to his potentially very serious health condition, we transported him to the Pilsen University Emergency Hospital, and then he had to be airlifted to the General University Hospital in Prague (VFN),” said Svobodová. The patient was hospitalized at the Department of Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Medicine.

“The patient received an antiserum and his condition is stabilized,” Marie Heřmánková, spokeswoman for VFN Prague, told Novinkám on Saturday after 9 p.m.

The man kept the snake in the apartment where he was alone. “The snake is secured, there is no danger to anyone,” assured police spokeswoman Eva Červenková. “We are looking into the circumstances of the breeder’s bite,” she added.

The rhinoceros viper lives in West and Central Africa, it has a fairly strong venom that breaks down tissue and causes massive bleeding.

(In the text, we have corrected the original information about the horned viper, the breeder was bitten by a rhinoceros viper, according to Novinek information.)
