The F1 commission discussed changing the points system. The final decision was eventually postponed.

Smaller teams came up with the idea. Based on the reactions of the team bosses in China, the proposal appeared to have support. In addition, only the consent of half of the teams would be sufficient to change the rules for next year.

According to Motorsport.com, the proposal was discussed at the F1 Commission meeting on Thursday, but it was agreed that it would not be approved just yet. There is still enough time to confirm the change and the Commission wants to carry out analyzes of the impact of the change.

What would the new system look like? Nothing would change for the first seven positions. The change would take place from the eighth place and 12 riders would score points.

P Now New
8 4 5
9 2 4
10 1 3
11 0 2
12 0 1

The change would apply from next year. What would be the situation in the Constructors’ Cup if the system was already in place today? The top two teams – Red Bull and Ferrari would have the same number of points.

McLaren would have 4 points more (100), Mercedes 6 more (58), Aston Martin also 6 (46).

Haas would be sixth (he is fifth today) with 17 points (he has 5 today). In seventh place would be the RB team with 10 points (7 today). Williams, Alpine and Sauber have 0 points today. The order between them would not change. But Williams would have 5 points, Alpine and Sauber 2 points each.
