The Abu Dhabi circuit will host the first artificial intelligence (AI) driven Formula One race.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly speaking into our lives. Many companies are also working on autonomous cars.

The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) brings it all together. The circuit, which traditionally hosts the end of the Formula 1 season, will host a race. Actually two races. In the first one, the battle between AI and former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat will take place. In the second race, cars controlled by AI will compete against each other.

The car will of course be equipped with cameras, lidars, radars and other technology. It is not a student formula. The chassis was supplied by the Italian Dallara and it is an SF23 car that is raced in the Japanese Super Formula.

Eight teams will compete – from the USA, UAE and Singapore, China and the UAE, Hungary, two from Italy and two from Germany. A $2.25 million prize will be up for grabs.

The driverless cars are identical, differing only in the AI ​​code each team has developed. The goal of the event is to demonstrate the development of autonomous technologies and their potential in improving road traffic safety.
