Max Verstappen took pole position at the Miami Grand Prix, and thus remains undefeated in this year’s qualifiers. Charles Leclerc started from the front row next to him.
The second row belonged to their team mates – Sainz and Pérez, in the third were the drivers of McLaren (Norris, Piastri), in the fourth Mercedes (Russell, Hamilton) and in the fifth Hülkenberg and Cunoda.
Race
Verstappen held on to first place but was not far from the end of the race. Pérez braked and missed him very narrowly. The Mexican dropped to fifth place. Piastri, who was third, had a good start.
In the second round, the order was: Verstappen, Leclerc, Piastri, Sainz, Pérez, Norris, Hülkenberg, Hamilton, Cunoda and the top ten was completed by Russell.
In the fourth lap, Piastri got ahead of Leclerc and in the following laps he was able to hold on to Verstappen, who increased the lead only very slowly.
Hamilton once again battled with the Haas driver. He replaced Magnussen from the sprint this time with Hülkenberg. He was able to get in front of him, but then made a mistake at turn 17 and Hülkenberg got in front of him again. Only then did Hamilton finally get ahead of the Haas driver, and then Russell overtook him in the 12th lap.
Pérez went to the mechanics already on lap 18/57. He dropped to tenth behind Ocon. Norris was able to try an overcut and started doing very fast laps. Leclerc built two laps later.
On the 22nd lap, Verstappen hit the bollard, which required a virtual safety car, which lasted only a few seconds and did not significantly affect the race. The championship leader went to the mechanics a moment later.
Piastri and Sainz built a 28/57 lap. Moments later, Magnussen and Sargeant collided. The Haas driver got into the pits, he was penalized 10 seconds for the collision. The race was over for Sargeant. The safety car had to go on the track.
Norris took advantage of the safety car for a pit stop and comfortably returned to first place. Before the restart the order was: Norris, Verstappen, Leclerc, Piastri, Sainz, Pérez, Cunoda, Hamilton, Russell, Ocon.
The restart occurred on lap 33/57. Norris secured first place and from then on slowly but surely built up a lead over Verstappen.
Sainz tried to get ahead of Piastri. In lap 34/57 there was an attack and contact between the two riders. Piastri damaged his front wing in the process, but this did not become fully apparent until later. The McLaren driver had to pit for a new front wing and the race was practically over for him.
Alonso got ahead of Ocon, who managed to finish 10th and thus get Alpine’s first point of the year.
Lando Norris cruised to his first F1 victory and McLaren’s first in nearly three years. Verstappen finished second, Leclerc was third.

Goal: Lando Norris wins the 2024 Miami Grand Prix!
57/57: Penalty 10 seconds for Stroll.
57/57: Last round…
56/57: 7.5 seconds, but it doesn’t matter anymore…
55/57: Sainz still around 3 seconds ahead of Pérez.
55/57: It’s 6.5 seconds. Only a technical problem or a big mistake will deprive Norris of the victory…
54/57: Albon braked massively and went off the track…
52/57: Piastri was warned that Lando was leading the race, the team did not want a safety car…
51/57: Almost 6 seconds.
50/57: Sainz 3 seconds ahead of Pérez. It doesn’t look like an attack, but if he got a 5 second penalty… he’d fall behind Hamilton too. Meanwhile, Piastri is progressing. he’s 17th, but he’s a long way off in terms of points… especially when it comes to positions.
50/57: Can we write it already? Norris has never won in F1. McLaren last at Monza in 2021. It’s very close.
49/57: The Sainz x Piastri collision will be investigated after the race.
49/57: Norris 5.3 seconds.
49/57: But Ocon doesn’t give up…
48/57: Alonso ahead of Ocon.
46/57: The contact between Sainz and Piastri finally investigated.
45/57: Alonso fights Ocon. The latter is ninth, which would be the first points for Alpine.
44/57: Hundredth by hundredth, tenth by tenth. Norris has a lead of 4 seconds.

- About what
- Hello
42/57: Hamilton just behind Pérez. It’s not a bad race at all for the Brit thanks to SC.
42/57: Norris 3.4s ahead of Verstappen.
42/57: Sainz also reports problems.
41/57: So the contact with Sainz was more serious. Piastri damaged the left side of the front wing. And now it’s the last…
40/57: Piastri lost two positions. Both Pérez and Hamilton got ahead of him. The Australian heads to the pits due to a damaged front wing. And that will hurt a lot.
40/57: Sainz in front of Piastri… he tried to pass him, but he got off the track.
39/57: Norris 2.6s ahead of Verstappen.
37/57: Meanwhile, Sainz is trying every angle… their recent fight without investigation…
36/57: Norris holds… 1.9 seconds.
35/57: Yes, tire contact…
34/57: Sainz fights with Piastri. Was it very close, maybe even a little contact?
33/57: And Norris even managed to escape the reach of DRS.
33/57: Norris defended first place…
33/57: Race restart…
32/57: SC goes into the pits…
32/57: Magnussen receives a 10 second penalty. However, we would rather be curious about penalty points. He had 8.

30/57: Norris is regularly in charge of the race. It has 6 rounds of fresher tires.
29/57: Magnussen, Sargeant were really demolishing…
29/57: Pérez in the pits again. We are also waiting for Norris, who now has a huge lead over Verstappen.
29/57: Safe car! Magnussen has a damaged wing, Sargeant in the barrier.
28/57: Piastri after stopping behind Leclerc…
28/57: Piastri, Sainz in the pits…
27/57: Hamilton in the pits…
24/57: Verstappen in the pits…
23/57: But VSC ended quickly…
23/57: Yes… Ocon., Alonso, Magnussen in the pits.
23/57: VSC… apparently due to bollard
22/57: Verstappen hits the bollard…
21/57: Norris stays on track and flies… Pérez 33.069, Norris 32.3
21/57: We don’t know what the Mexican is doing there. Leclerc built later and is already faster in the sectors (it takes some time to warm up the tires).
20/57: Leclerc in the pits, Norris the fastest lap of the race.
19/57: Pérez beat Ocon.
19/57: And Norris immediately sped up…
18/57: Pérez dropped to tenth place and has Ocon in front of him. Chance for Norris to overcut?
18/57: Pérez in the pits
16/57: The stops were supposed to be between the 15th and the 21st lap.
16/57: Verstappen has not yet driven to Piastri. It’s still 3 seconds, which is on the edge of undercut. But Piastri also has to look beyond himself. Leclerc is less than a second behind his rear wing.
14/57: Norris hung on Pérez.
14/57: Hard fight between Albon and Stroll. The Williams driver went off the track.
13/57: And the Haas driver in the pits.
12/57: In front of Hulk now also Russell.
11/57: Hamilton seventh again. Albon in the pits.
10/57: Piastri is faster than Verstappen in the first sector. But it loses in others. Overall, it’s a tenth, two slower. A difference of 2.7s. Leclerc keeps him within reach of DRS.
9/57: Hamilton has made a mistake and Hulk is ahead of him again.
7/57: Hamilton ahead of Hulkenberg. And he complains about the behavior of the Haas driver. They say it wasn’t far from a big accident…
7/57: Pérez recorded the possibility of a solid start. And we have new rules.
5/57: Piastri is 2.3s behind Verstappen.
4/57: Piastri ahead of Leclerc!
4/57: Pérez was close to taking down Verstappen after the start.
3/57: Leclerc cannot use DRS. Both Piastri and Sainz did. Pérez is already losing more than a second.
3/57: The second ten is fighting…
2/57: Hulk on the medium is ahead of Hamilton, who is riding on the hards. The Brit has Haas in front of him again…

9:47 p.m.: The American national anthem is playing.
9:40 p.m: Strategy: one stop is expected. Soft tires behave a bit strangely in Miami. There is not much difference between soft and medium. But some (Norris on Friday, Ricciardo yesterday) had soft problems. According to Pirelli, they pushed them too much in the first sector.
But for the race, soft may not be bad. Degradation should be rather lower overall.
9:35 p.m.: Verstappen will have both Ferrari drivers behind him, who will want to complicate his path to another victory. But we must not forget the McLaren drivers either.
Ricciardo was the star of the shootout and sprint. But he will start from the last place after a bad qualification and a penalty from China.
21:29: But now Hamilton should already be on his way to the starting grid..
9:28 p.m.: Hamilton’s car is pulled quickly into the garage…
21:27: Many celebrities have traditionally arrived in Miami. This time also Donald Trump.

21:24: But Verstappen is still undefeated in qualifying (not counting shootouts). Today, they will attack for another victory in Miami. Not only has he won the previous two races at this track, he has won every race in the US since 2021.
9:23 p.m.: The sixth race of the season is upon us, which means that we will have completed a quarter of the season. So far we have seen four wins for Verstappen and one for Sainz.
21:21: Temperatures continue to be high… air almost 30 degrees, track 47 degrees Celsius
21:21: Riders make their way to the starting grid.
21:20: Welcome to the 2024 Miami Grand Prix online broadcast.
