Last August, the Spanish women’s national football team won the World Cup for the first time in history. However, the team’s performance at the championships in Australia and New Zealand was eventually overshadowed by the affair of the then head of Spanish football, Luis Rubiales, who kissed one of the players, Jennifer Hermosová, on the lips.
The manager will eventually go to court over this. The Spanish High Court decided on this on Wednesday, as reported by the France 24 portal, for example. The date of the trial is not yet known.
Rubiales did not hold back his emotions during the congratulations. The kiss he gave Hermos was very intense. Rubiales claims that the kiss was spontaneous, euphoric and especially mutual and consensual.
However, the Spanish mortgage company categorically disagrees with this statement.
Rubiales, who is also suspected of corruption in another case, is now facing charges of sexual assault and coercion because he allegedly tried to force Hermos to say that she exposed herself to his kiss voluntarily. The Spanish prosecutor’s office wants him to serve 2.5 years behind bars for his actions.
In addition to Rubiales, two other former officials and also the former coach of the women’s national football team will stand trial. All of them allegedly convinced Hermos to legitimize the received kiss as consensual. All face one and a half years in prison.
Jennifer Hermos is one of the most popular soccer players in Spain, previously playing for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, with whom she won numerous trophies. The top scorer in the history of the national team is currently working for the Mexican team UANL Tigres. She recently played against the Czech national team, for whom she scored one goal in the Euro qualifiers and helped the home team win 3:1.
