Poland’s nomination for the 2024 Ice Hockey World Championship

Twenty-four-year-old Zygmunt has already spent five seasons in Litvínov and scored 38 points for 24 goals and 14 assists in 209 games in the extra league, including the playoffs. In his first year in the Czech Republic, he also played in the first league for Kadaň and Litoměřice. Walega, a year younger, came to Třinec from Liptovský Mikuláš last year and did not score in 11 games in the extra league. In the first league Frýdek-Místek, he had 21 points for 10 goals and 11 assists in 28 games.

The 30-year-old Fučík is a native of Třebíč, he caught in the first league for Jihlava, Benátky nad Jizerou and Havířov, in the junior international Russian MHL for Karlovy Vary and the Austrian EBEL for Znojmo. In the 2014/15 season, he played one match in the extra league for Liberec. He presented himself in Poland for the first time in 2016 in Jastrzebie. He also worked in Gdańsk, in the British Hull and in the Slovak Extraliga in Žilina. He came to GKS Tychy in mid-December 2021 from Havířov.

The 87th World Ice Hockey Championship is taking place in the term 10-26 May 2024 in the Czech Republic, the tournament will be divided between the cities of Prague and Ostrava.

Nineteen-year-old forward Krzysztof Macias from the Prince Albert Raiders of the Canadian junior WHL also has a Czech passport. He played in the Czech Republic until last year. He first worked in youth in Poruba, then in Vítkovice, where last year he got an opportunity in the extra league in five duels and scored once. He also played three matches in the first league for Šumperka.

Another six players also worked in the Czech Republic. The 39-year-old defender Marcin Kolusz from Jastrzebia played 104 extra-league games for Třinec from 2005 to 2008 and scored 13 points for nine hits and four assists. He played for Havířov and Prostějov in the first league. Another back, Bartosz Ciura, played one match for Třinec in the 2021/22 season and started in the first league Frýdek-Místek.

Striker Alan Lyszczarczyk played for Ocelar in 16 matches between 2021 and 2023 and scored one goal, mostly playing in Frýdek-Místek. Likewise, Filip Komorski, who in the 2021/22 season in Třinec got the opportunity in three matches and scored once. Dominik Pas played in the first league for Havířov in the same season. Patryk Wronka worked in 2016/17 in Znojmo at EBEL.

Besides Fučík, Macias and another attacker Patryk Krezolek from Sosnovec did not start at the World Championship even in the B division. John Murray, a 36-year-old native of Lancaster, USA, from Katowice, has been catching for Poland since the 2016/17 season.

In preparation, the Poles beat Hungary at home in Krynice 5:2 and 6:2. In Bytom, they lost to Slovenia 0:2 and 1:3. They lost to Great Britain 1:3 in Leeds and 1:2 in Nottingham after separate raids. They lost to Slovakia 1:6 in Žilina and Denmark 1:3 in Sosnovec.

They will enter the championship on Saturday from 16:20 against Latvia. In other matches of the basic group B in Ostrava, they will play against Sweden, France, Slovakia, the United States of America, Germany and Kazakhstan.
