It’s up for debate whether big changes will happen in Toronto. The biggest one should be the movement on the trainer’s chair. A Sheldon Keefe replacement? The Maple Leafs are said to be interested in signing Craig Berube.

It stands to reason that summer will see changes in Toronto. Getting the club eliminated in the first round certainly won’t help general manager Brad Treliving, who will have some important decisions to make.

Trade Marner? Buy out Tavares? These two options have been discussed recently. However, Sheldon Keef’s future is far from certain with the Leafs, despite signing a two-year contract extension in Toronto last summer. And his potential replacement is a man known to fans.

There is a lot of talk about Craig Berube, who led the Blues to the Stanley Cup in 2019 and still has a year left on his contract, which earns him less than 4 million US dollars.

“If Leafs general manager Brad Treliving decides to make a coaching change, one of the favorites should be the former coach of St. Louis Blues Craig Berube,” writes journalist David Pagnotta.

And not only him. In Canada, Berube’s name is becoming more pronounced.

Bruce Garrioch wrote that Berube was interested in the job in Ottawa, but the space there closed with the arrival of Travis Greene. He also spoke with the boss of New Jersey, but there does not seem to be an agreement there either. But that doesn’t have to be a problem.

“If the Leafs fire Keefe, then Berube would be a prime candidate for that position. He is very tolerant of responsibility and would be able to make the right moves to help any team reach a higher level,” writes a journalist for the Ottawa Citizen.

Similar voices are heard by Darren Dreger, one of the most respected names in the circles of overseas sports journalists. “It is more likely than less that there will be a change on the bench. Berube is the number one candidate, the Leafs want experience,” he says.

Will it work out?
