The eleventh ice hockey world championship is already being held in Prague. The previous ten championships brought a lot of great stories, which were looked back on in the Aktuálně.cz series “When Prague wrote hockey stories” in recent weeks. Here is their overview.

The first Czechoslovak championship took place in 1933, at a time when the economic crisis was at its peak and Adolf Hitler became the German chancellor. But also at the time when Josef Maleček “wrote” his story. With ten goals and three assists, the best scorer and most productive player of the tournament.
A sports all-rounder who also played football, golf and jumped over obstacles. After the communist coup in 1948, he fled to Switzerland on a Peruvian passport.
