Of course, the traditionally emotional audience from the sparse stands in Rome gave the 2020 Australian Open winner a proper backlash for her behavior. The native from Moscow was whistled and booed.

It all started in the first set, when Keninová went to sit on the bench after an unconverted break point and complained to the umpire that due to the rainy conditions, the court was too wet and impossible to play on.

But she did not follow through with her complaint. She was told by the umpire that “the court is not unplayable”, and the tournament supervisor subsequently gave the same verdict, stating that he would stop the match immediately only if the conditions became dangerous to health.

Kenin’s response really pissed her off. “F*cking fools,” she cursed aloud. She threw the towel, angrily pulled back the racket and went to continue the match. She eventually won it 6:3, 6:2.

The Italian ended the match with a shot into the net, after which Kenin turned to the fans and shouted: “Fuck you.”
