Sparta with advantages, Slavia must. How will the derby affect the title race?

--

The derby takes place in the second round of the superstructure. Sparta is currently leading by four points, after Saturday’s duel both teams will have three more matches.

Sparta will win

At that moment, the defending champions would be in an even more comfortable position than last season. At that time, after winning the derby (3:2) also in the second round of the extension, they got to a five-point lead. Subsequently, they triumphed at home 2:1 over Bohemians, and a draw in Slovakia ensured them the coveted cup.

In the event of Saturday’s success, Sparta would have seven points to their credit and could celebrate the title already on Tuesday at home with Baník. Slavia would find themselves in an almost unsolvable situation. She would have to win the remaining three duels and hope that Sparta does not gain a single point. In the event of equality, the position after the regular part is decided, which the group around captain Ladislav Krejčí dominated.

Actually, the same as last year, when both teams closed the competition with 78 points. Slavia had a better score difference, a greater number of goals scored and a positive mutual balance from three derbies (4:0, 3:3, 2:3). But she went to the superstructure in second place, which was crucial for the finals of the year. “We have the title in our hands. But there is still a long way to go, we still have four tough games ahead of us,” coach Brian Priske realizes.

The derby ends in a draw

Another option that would record for Sparta in the last three rounds. The difference would remain four points, but with the aforementioned, it would be true that Slavia must win five points more. Both teams still have home matches with Pilsen. Stitched immediately on Wednesday and Letenská at the very end of the season.

REMAINING MATCHES Sparta Slavia
2nd round of superstructure Slavia D (Saturday, May 11, 5:30 p.m.) Sparta V (Saturday, May 11, 5:30 p.m.)
3rd round of superstructure Miner D (Tuesday, May 14, 7:30 p.m.) Pilsen D (Wednesday 15 May, 19:30)
4th round of superstructure Mladá Boleslav V (Saturday, May 18, 5 p.m.) Slovácko V (Saturday, May 18, 5 p.m.)
5th round of superstructure Pilsen D (Sunday, May 26, 4 p.m.) Mladá Boleslav D (Sunday, May 26, 4 p.m.)

In the same way, both rivals will face Mladá Boleslaví, Sparta will welcome Baník and Slavia will travel to Slovácko. Can it even be expected that the defenders would still lose at least five points out of nine? “Slavia should try to score as soon as possible on Saturday. We have to break Sparta, which won’t be easy because they don’t play bad football. Little things will decide,” Slavia soccer player Kateřina Svitková said in Přímák on Sport.cz.

Slavia will win

The title fight is getting messy. Slavia would lose a single point, and with a 100% balance, it would be “enough” for Sparta to hesitate once for the title. Maybe just in the last round at home with Pilsen. However, the team from Eden did not win the last four derbies.

“That’s true, but I’ll turn it into a positive point of view. Again, we’ve only lost one of our last six derbies, if I take the cup we lost in extra time as a draw. It shows the composure of both teams. However, we must not commit fouls, penalties, or score our own goals. We have to handle some key moments emotionally. We need to turn them in our favor,” says coach Jindřich Trpišovský.
