AI Explorer will transform the way you work with Windows. Only a select few will receive the key news – SMARTmania.cz

  • Microsoft will launch advanced artificial intelligence in Windows 11 this year
  • AI Explorer will follow your every move and help you with your work
  • In the first wave, only computers with ARM processors will support it

With its Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus computer chipsets, Qualcomm wants to cause the same revolution that Apple unleashed four years ago with its ARM-based Apple Silicon chipsets. In order for him to succeed, he will need significant help from Microsoft – the previous attempts with ARM Windows did not end very well. This time the Redmonds have a better charge, will they finally manage to hit the center of the target?

Windows on ARM processors for the third time

Microsoft tried to enter the ARM waters twice, but neither time saw much success. The Windows RT platform was canceled due to lack of user interest, the Windows on ARM platform still survives and awaits its imminent rebirth.

Windows ARM PCs were not adopted due to many compromises, mainly the lack of native applications and poorer compatibility of existing ones. Computer manufacturers did not try to compensate for these shortcomings with price, and instead tried to entice users with long life and instant connectivity. However, few users wanted to buy an expensive computer that did not run some of their favorite programs.

The upcoming new generation of ARM computers should be significantly better. Not only have developers finally jumped into creating native apps (there’s even Google Chrome!), the upcoming Windows 11 update should also bring better emulation of apps designed for Intel/AMD processors. Qualcomm even claims that computers with new Snapdragons will be able to play classic medium-demanding games without any problems.

AI Explorer: a new way to work with Windows

One of the big attractions of the new generation of ARM processors is supposed to be artificial intelligence. The Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus chipsets have a very powerful neural unit that handles complex AI tasks directly on the device. One of them is supposed to be the brand new AI Explorer feature, which is supposed to change the way you use Windows. What’s going on?

AI Explorer is supposed to be a kind of invisible helper that will monitor and remember all the user’s activity in the background. This history will then be useful in tracing various fragments, using natural language. AI Explorer, for example, captures your WhatsApp conversations and helps you quickly find the content you want by simply asking: “find me the PDF file my friend sent me on Monday”. In the same way, it will be possible to use AI Explorer to search for recently viewed pages in the Internet browser or open documents on the computer – artificial intelligence will scan every movement on the screen. Fortunately, the user will be able to choose in which applications AI Explorer will be able to collect data and in which it will not.

It is important that AI Explorer does not share its data with the outside world in any way – everything should take place directly on the device. For this reason, a high-performance neural unit will be required, which at the moment only chipsets from Qualcomm have. Computers with processors from Intel or AMD are not supposed to have access to this feature, at least with the current generation of processors.

Understanding what is happening on the screen

But AI Explorer is not only “digging in the past”, but can also help in real time. This assistant will reportedly be able to analyze what is currently happening on the screen and proactively offer suggestions for the next course of action. For example, when it sees an open image, it offers the option to remove its background using the Paint app. When it sees two similar documents open next to each other, it offers to compare them. AI Explorer should also be able to help create responses to emails or other text conversations. Since AI Explorer is based on a simple analysis of what is happening on the screen, developers will not need to take any additional steps to support it.

Even more AI features

In addition, AI Explorer is not the only Windows function using artificial intelligence, we would like to see more advanced effects within the Windows Studio Effects service, real-time language translation or a greater number of generative functions – these items should also apply to all processors, not only those from Qualcomm .

The unveiling of the capabilities of the new generation of AI computers will probably take place on May 20, on the eve of the Microsoft Build developer conference, on this day we should also see the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 computers, which will be one of the first representatives of this generation.
