That the theory of “insect dictatorship” seems absurd to you? So know that a message appeared on the Aeronet website in November 2022 that contained, among other things, this phrase: “The globalists’ plan to feed people with insects and worms has already arrived in the Czech Republic!” The lie works with the theory that the globalists want to take everything away from people: from freedom of speech to the freedom to choose the food on the plate. “Of the people, only slaves and serfs will remain, without a will of their own, what they may say and what they may eat,” it is written further on the website.
To this day, this information is spread in thousands of chain e-mails, which have certainly not disappeared from the mailboxes of vulnerable groups of people. And according to the database of Czech elves, the mandatory mixing of insects into food is currently one of the the most widespread hoaxes.

The popularity of this lie is evidenced, for example, by the Facebook page “I don’t eat crickets”, which is followed by 18,000 people. In connection with the cricket theory, there are also mentions of a substance with the name chitin. It is a naturally occurring fiber that, according to these theories, is supposed to damage human organs, cause cancer and other diseases. Insects do contain this substance, yes, but mushrooms and shrimps also contain it. And what is important, chitin does not harm us in any way, according to some sources it can be beneficial.
Strict rules
Insects belong to the so-called new foodswhich is a designation for food that was not normally consumed within the EU before May 15, 1997. Because of this, it must undergo strict controls by the European Food Safety Authority and always be very well marked. So no, no secret meddling, but strict hygiene rules. insects in food have been with us for many years? For example, the secretions of the lacquer worm are used under the label E 904 to create a shiny surface in various confections, while the red dye of cochineal – E 120 – is obtained from the dried bodies of the females of the crimson nopal tree.
In 2021 and 2022, the approval rounds ended, on the basis of which the authority officially authorized the food use of three types of insects, which clearly indicates the exact conditions of use or maximum dosage. If a product contains it, you can tell by the list of ingredients, where these are the products are marked with the Latin and Czech name of the insect species.
So no, eating insects is not common in our country, but those who want to enjoy a cricket do not need to worry. The reports of the authority identified mealworms, locusts or house crickets as safe foods, they only warn about the possibility of an allergic reaction that they can trigger in people with allergies to crustaceans and dust mites.
And one pearl at the end. The topic is often spread by various pro-Russian channels, and for example, the Telegram group Cvrčka nežeru was previously called “Vaccination Reality” and acted as an anti-vaxxer resource during the covid pandemic. And therein lies the key. The people behind groups like this will really do anything to hit on a topic that divides us. And that’s just what crickets are.
However, there is certainly no one here who forces crickets as a mandatory diet on people, who bans sirloin steak with five or wants to rule the world with locusts.
As stated by the Czech Elves, the subject of mandatory insect eating is just a tool to manipulate a sufficient number of people and turn them against the European Union and weaken the credibility of democratic institutions.
