- The useful Circle to Search feature goes from phones to the Chrome desktop browser
- It will thus expand the current search through Google Lens
- It is not yet known when we will see the news in full traffic
Internet search is slowly but surely changing, mainly thanks to artificial intelligence. It is no longer the case that we have to search on the Internet only through text input – for example, the latest Pixels or Galaxy phones from Samsung have a useful gadget that makes searching much easier. All you have to do is circle an object or text directly on the device’s display, and smart algorithms in cooperation with AI will take care of finding and displaying additional information. Now it looks like Chrome users on desktops will soon be able to enjoy this handy feature as well.
AI features are heading from phones to the desktop as well
Google Chrome’s current integration with Google Lens allows users to search for additional information about text or images on web pages and discover visually similar images elsewhere on the Internet. Google seems to be working on an update that promises to further streamline the experience, at least according to a user with the nickname https://twitter.com/Leopeva64/status/1787938494905467100who noticed a new animation appearing in the Google Lens UI in Chrome that mimics the experience in the Circle to Search app on Android.
This change to the user interface appears to be a continuation of previously observed changes in the behavior of Chrome Lens, including the blurring of the background on screenshots and the Lens icon that follows the cursor. Google Lens works a little differently in Chrome in its current form. You can still take a screenshot, but it takes more clicking and the user interface itself isn’t as intuitive as it is on phones.
Don’t overlook
On Circle to Search, Samsung has an exclusivity with Google. Others are out of luck
However, even with this new animation, you still can’t actually circle or draw a freeform to highlight content on the desktop. Instead, moving the cursor creates a rectangular selection. It is not yet known when this feature will appear in the sharp version.
