The emergency services on line 158 received a report of the fire shortly after eleven o’clock in the morning and went to the scene. The original report spoke of a fire in the hospital kitchen, but this has not been confirmed. “The fire broke out in the air-conditioning machine room on the third floor of one of the operational buildings of the hospital,” informed the Fire and Rescue Service of the Liberec Region.
Firefighters declared a third degree fire alarm. “Forty people were evacuated from the building affected by the fire, two of them were taken out by firefighters using breathing apparatus. None of them were injured and did not even inhale smoke,” said regional police spokeswoman Dagmar Sochorová.
Firefighters divided the scene into two sections. At around 12:15, the incident commander reported the location of the fire and began ventilating the building using positive pressure ventilation.
“At the moment, the police and firefighters are investigating the circumstances of the fire,” added Sochorová. The police have preliminarily informed that the damage will probably exceed one million crowns.
