Mercedes cannot live only on occasional bright moments, claims Wolff – F1sport.cz

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff claims that it is not enough for his team to record a good result every now and then.

The suffering of Mercedes, which won eight constructors’ titles between 2014 and 2021, continues for the third season.

The German team, which is currently fourth in the Constructors’ Cup, is able to record a good result from time to time – we can remind you, for example, of Lewis Hamilton’s second place in the sprint in China, but according to its boss Toto Wolff, this is not enough.

“We are not satisfied at all. Second place in the sprint was a small highlight, but performance-wise it’s not that. We can always say that we had bright moments at the weekend, but we have to take a step,” said Wolff in an interview with Servus TV.

Mercedes reported at the beginning of the season that it had problems in fast corners. Although he eliminated these problems, others appeared – the German car began to lose speed in slow corners.

“I think we got to the point where we were really competitive in the fast corners now, and it was the same in Suzuka. It was like night and day compared to what we had before. But we didn’t show anything in the slow sections… so if you gain half a second in the fast corners, but lose half a second in the slow ones, you’re at zero,” said the Mercedes boss, who hopes that the German team’s W15 car will be next in Miami faster thanks to upgrades.
