Today in Prague, a convoy of historic army vehicles and motorcycles will commemorate 79 years since the end of the Second World War. After the ceremonial act in front of the United States embassy, the reconstructed vehicles will continue to western and southern Bohemia. According to organizer František Polívka, the goal of the event is to pay tribute to the American army that liberated this part of Czechoslovakia in 1945.

According to Polívka, the event has been held since 2005, always on the last Friday in April. “We want the boys who died here to be remembered, although they may not have been at home in the States,” said the organizer of the convoy to ČTK. A total of 16 vehicles and two motorbikes will gather on the Prague embankment in Malá Strana, then the convoy will move in front of the US Embassy.

The celebrations of the anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the liberation by the American army traditionally culminate in the Freedom Celebrations in Pilsen. Between May 3rd and 6th, the event will offer a rich military-historical and cultural program, which also includes exhibitions, concerts and memorial acts. The big Sunday Convoy of Liberty parade with 200 pieces of historical military equipment will also be included.
