Shopping in Czech supermarkets can be financially demanding, which was recently confirmed by Prime Minister Petr Fiala and other experts. Many of the same things are more expensive here than in neighboring countries, which is very stressful for our citizens. Of all ages.

However, ladies and gentlemen, there are a few tricks to save money.

And not just for seniors, but for everyone.

One of the main ways to keep costs down, is really rigorous planning.

Before visiting the store, make a list of the items you need and stick to it. Without compromise!

Absolutely avoid impulse purchases that can increase your expenses.

Also, make the most of advantageous events and discounts. Become an action hero or even a heroine!

Follow supermarket flyers and choose products that are currently on sale. No, the ones that were there last week, but the current ones! Keep your finger on the pulse of the times.

You can also use loyalty programs (as our grandmothers already knew, long-term loyalty pays off not only in partnerships, but also in purchases), which can offer you additional discounts or bonuses for regular purchases.

It is also important to compare prices consistently.

Sometimes it can happen that the same product is cheaper in another store. Then we buy it in a store where it is cheaper, not more expensive.

Keep your eyes peeled and compare prices to get the most bang for your buck.

More packaging, more fun!

Another tip is to buy larger packages.

Although it may seem more expensive at first, you can save in the long run because the price per unit is lower.

And finally, don’t be afraid to buy discounted products.

These are often goods with a minimum consumption period that has passed, but which can still be fully consumed.

Just follow the expiration dates and buy wisely.

Don’t shop hungry or upset

Another piece of advice is to never go shopping at the supermarket on an empty stomach. Hunger is the best cook, but it also motivates you to buy food that you would otherwise miss.

Better modify the proverb to “salary is the best chef” and shop very carefully, and especially never on an empty stomach.

In the same way, many people solve their problems by making hasty and impulsive purchases. And often for debt. On the one hand, it’s understandable, today’s times place enormous demands on us, especially from the psychological point of view, but driving away stress by shopping – often also extremely unhealthy food – is a path to economic and dietary hell.

Good people, don’t underestimate the benefits of preparing your own meals.

Buying ingredients and cooking at home is usually a lot cheaper than buying ready meals.

Invest (wisely) in basic ingredients such as rice, pasta, rum, beer, legumes or flour. And learn to cook simple but really tasty dishes.

Not only will this save you money, but it can also be a fun activity, especially if you get your kids or grandkids involved.

In addition, semi-finished products often overflow with, among other things, preservatives and various unhealthy flavorings (smaculades), which you can avoid when preparing at home.

With these tips, you will become a smart shopper that even the legendary Woman behind the counter would appreciate, and you will save a lot of money with every purchase.

Surely someone will say sarcastically, I knew all that a long time ago, but this is mainly about permanent discipline, not about some epoch-making discoveries. There is real power in simplicity and discipline.

Good luck and good luck!

Those who save get three!
