A Briton died in the Vltava River: The family wants to know what happened to him

Joop S. was participating in a party on a boat, from which he jumped directly into the cold waters of the Vltava on the night of Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th April. “My friend Joop went missing in the early hours of Sunday, April 27th. He was on board the ship that departs from the President Prague hotel,” shared Brit’s partner on social networks. Allegedly, he should have said that he was only going for a swim, but no one has seen him since the aforementioned April 27. “The family is really scared. Maybe he swam back to shore and no one has seen him so he could be anywhere,” she continued in the status.

Unfortunately, he did not swim ashore. He was found by a passer-by in Vltava on May 5. A day later, the family confirmed on social media that it was the beloved Joop. On May 7, Joop’s cousin posted a touching video on Facebook showing Joop full of life. “Joop was so full of life and left us too soon. His character was larger than life itself and there are so many funny stories and stories to tell from everyone who loved him,” she stated. She also asked everyone to share a link to a fundraiser to raise money for the body’s repatriation and burial.

Crush and anger

In the collection, Joop’s mother said that the search for Joop was not without complications. According to her, the crew members on the party ship did not cooperate and the Prague police initially showed no interest in searching for her son. “Police Scotland told us that the responsibility lies with the authorities in Prague,” she said. “Joop’s family received no financial support from the British Embassy and funded the search on their own,” she added.

She thus raised a collection of 20,000 pounds, which translates to almost 600,000 CZK. “We are devastated by our loss and Joop’s passing has left a hole in our hearts. Please keep Joop in your thoughts and prayers. Your donation will help us repatriate Joop’s body back to the UK, help with funeral costs and investigations with the local authorities, to find out what happened to him,” she added.
