The long-awaited presidential candidacy is finally a reality. General Petr Pavel officially confirmed today that he will seek the post of head of state in the January elections. According to the polls, he is the biggest favorite to win.

“Let’s restore order and peace to the Czech Republic. I’m ready and I’m going to do it!” With these words, Petr Pavel, former Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Czech Republic and former Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, definitively announced his candidacy for the presidency today.

“I don’t care what the Czech Republic will be like. How we will all live here, our children and grandchildren. I will continue to serve our country as I have done all my life,” he added on Facebook.

In the Median agency’s July model, Pavel placed second for a possible first round, when he was four and a half percentage points behind former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), who would have received 25.5% of the vote.

However, the possible second round, which would decide who will sit at Prague Castle, would clearly belong to Pavlo with a gain of 59.5% of the votes. However, a quarter of the research respondents stated that they were not sure who and whether they would vote for them in the second round.
