Russian actor Artur Smolyaninov was the star of the film The Ninth Company, one of the most popular films of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The film is about a group of Soviet soldiers who fought against Afghan insurgents and stars Smolyaninov as the Russian Rambo. Currently, however, the actor is considered a foreign agent and an enemy of the regime, as he writes edition.cnn.com.

Russian Rambo

Artur Smoljaninov was the main star of the Russian film The Ninth Company, which premiered in 2005. In the film, he portrayed the last surviving soldier from the battle for Afghanistan, which Russian forces occupied for a decade. The film, or rather its protagonist, is often referred to as the Russian Rambo. The bloody story is said to be one of the most popular with Vladimir Putin. But a lot has changed since then.

Disagreements with the regime

Now living in exile, Smolyaninov has said in recent interviews that he is ready to fight on the Ukrainian side of the blockade and kill Russian soldiers. “I feel nothing but hatred for the people on the other side of the barricade. If I were on the battlefield, I would have no mercy.” stated last week in an interview with the Novaya Gazeta portal.

Smoljaninov also shared that his former colleague went to fight for the Russian side. “Should I shoot him? Without hesitation! Do I keep the option to fight for Ukraine? Of course! That’s the only option for me. If I were to go fight in this war, it would only be for Ukraine.”

A few days after the incriminating interview, Smoljaninov was placed on the list of foreign agents, where he was written by the Russian Ministry of Justice. Alexander Bastrykin, head of Russia’s investigative commission, also ordered the actors to be investigated by authorities, CNN World reported on the website.
