SpaceX presented suits for ascents into free space – Kosmonautix.cz

That company SpaceX is working on spacesuits for space ascents, it’s been known for a long time, but until now we haven’t seen what the spacesuit will look like except for a few small hints. Today, SpaceX released a roughly minute-long video that shows what the space suit will look like. At the same time, she updated the part of her website where we can find out more information. According to SpaceX, its launch is expected this summer at the earliest. From all the published documents, it is clear that the new spacesuit will look very similar to the existing suits that SpaceX uses to protect against the loss of atmosphere in ships Crew Dragon. The difference that will attract attention at first glance will be the differently colored visor.

SpaceX says on its website that the spacesuit is an evolution of the lightweight spacesuit worn by astronauts in Crew Dragon ships. When developing the new suit, the company emphasized mobility, so the teams incorporated new materials, manufacturing processes and design elements to give astronauts more flexibility during ascents while maintaining comfort during off-ascents. In addition to an improved visor that reduces reflections, the 3D printed helmet also has improved Heads-up displays and a camera. The aforementioned HUD shows pressure, temperature and relative humidity readings inside the spacesuit. The suit also features improvements in reliability and redundancy during ascent. It is equipped with additional seals and pressure valves to ensure that the suit remains pressurized, keeping the crew safe.

All of the aforementioned improvements to the spacesuit are part of a scalable design that allows the suits to be made and scaled for different body types as SpaceX strives to make spaceflight more accessible to as many people as possible. On the Polris Dawn mission, SpaceX’s new heavy-duty spacesuit will be used for the first time in low orbit. However, according to SpaceX, its main goal is to lie much further from our planet. In its paper, the firm mentions that building a base on the moon and a city on Mars will require developing a scalable design to produce millions of spacesuits to help make life multiplanetary.
