Not only clients, but also travel agencies and agencies prepare for summer vacation in the Czech Republic just a few weeks before the main travel season begins. A number of them have expanded their offer after two years of record sales.

“Since the beginning of this year, we have seen a year-on-year increase in the number of clients who are interested in going on a summer vacation. The same information is also confirmed to us by the travel agencies with which we cooperate. A number of them have therefore increased their available capacities. On average, usually by five to ten percent compared to last season,” says Jan Foret, director of the largest travel agency in the Czech Republic, Invia, in an interview with SZ Byznys.

Competition will make trips cheaper for Czechs

According to him, in addition to a greater number of offers from existing and established travel agencies, the portfolio of available tours this year is also being expanded by new players. “We observe that the capacities of new travel agencies that have entered the Czech market are increasing. Examples are the Polish Coral Travel or the originally German travel agency Tui,” he says in the program Agenda Foret.

The change in the market, when foreign players want to attract Czech tourists to their tour offers, can also play a role in the competitive struggle between companies. Ultimately, even reduce the prices of tours.

CA Invia and competition

The agency is the largest online seller of holidays in the Czech Republic.

It was founded in 2002, until 2004 it was called MojeDovolená.cz.

Around 250 travel agencies operating on the Czech and Slovak markets sell tours.

Apart from Invia, the Czech travel agency market also includes TravelPortal.cz, Zájezdy.cz and Dovalany.cz, which belong to Radim Jančura’s yellow empire (RegioJet and Student Agency).

“I think that every competition is to some extent also an opportunity to further cultivate the market and to think about the overall level of service of individual travel agencies. I believe that the end customer in particular will benefit from it, whether from the point of view of greater availability of tours, or the expansion of the portfolio of destinations that in the past, for example, were not available from the Czech Republic at all,” explains the director of the Invia travel agency.

“Potentially, a change in the market together with an increase in capacity can also affect the prices of some destinations,” Jan Foret added in the Agenda program.

According to him, Egypt is one of those destinations that are sold cheaper year-on-year for this season. “For the nearest trips to Egypt, it is possible to get a price of around eight thousand crowns per person, including the ticket and the all-inclusive program,” he describes.

At the same time, he adds that some destinations are already becoming more expensive. “Currently, we register only a few locations where the price has increased. In their case, it is an average price increase of around seven to ten percent,” adds Invia director Jan Foret.

Czechs want a better hotel for fewer days

Even the price increase of some locations will not deter clients this year. According to Invia data, they are willing to spend an average of around nineteen thousand crowns per person.

“Customers do not want to discount their holiday entitlements, they want to maintain the standard and quality of services of the selected hotel. Instead of, for example, going to a three-star hotel instead of a four-star hotel, they prefer to shorten the length of their stay. So instead of vacationing for eleven days, they will travel for just a week,” explains Jan Foret in the program Agenda.

Due to the high demand in the first quarter of this year, the travel agency Invia is expecting a successful year. “So far, everything indicates that this year will be even more successful than last year, not only from the point of view of the agency in the Czech Republic, but our entire operation within the Central European market,” says the director of Invia.
