Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Paris and will begin a two-day state visit to France on Monday, AFP reported with reference to Chinese state media.

Uighurs and Tibetans are preparing demonstrations in the French capital against the visit. The visit of the Chinese leader is to be a celebration of 60 years since the establishment of French-Chinese diplomatic relations.

Relations between China and France are a model of peaceful coexistence and cooperation between countries with different systems, Xi said after his arrival, according to Chinese media. “Their development also brings stability and positive energy to a troubled world,” the Chinese official added.

During the trip, Si will meet with President Emmanuel Macron. According to Reuters, he will urge his Chinese counterpart to use his influence on Russia to end the war in Ukraine. France has long been trying to get China to put pressure on Moscow to stop its aggression in Ukraine.

The statesmen are also expected to discuss trade. He also has a meeting with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. On his first trip to Europe since the coronavirus pandemic, Xi Jinping will also visit Serbia and Hungary.
