Ukraine is creating a network of underground armories

--

Ukraine needs millions of artillery shells to conduct battles with thousands of volleys and trench-to-trench attacks like in the Battle of Verdun in 1916. But at the same time, it cannot do without tens of thousands of drones that fight the enemy in the air and on the water. It is already among the countries with the largest production of helmets, body armor and uniforms of all kinds.

But above all, according to El Mundo, Ukraine strives to get rid of its dependence on the West and become a great power in military research and in the future a producer of weapons and ammunition, which the West will also be interested in.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decided to remodel and rebuild Ukrainian arms factories after the Russians destroyed a significant part of their production capacities with numerous strikes during the first months of the war. Hundreds of qualified technicians and workers died at the time, and that is why, according to the newspaper, the decision was made to hide the new armories underground.

For this mission, he got Oleksandr Kamyshin, according to the newspaper El Mundo “one of the most capable men of Ukraine”. Kamyshin gained his spurs not only as a top manager at KPMG, a global network of consulting companies providing services in the field of auditing, taxation and consulting, but also as the head of the Ukrainian state railways Ukrzaliznycja, which became one of the symbols of the successful resistance against Russian aggressors.

Under Kamyšin, there was not only the rapid restoration of a number of lines damaged by the Russian army, but also the repair of lines to Poland and Romania for more alternative connections towards the west. The transporter became very well known worldwide also thanks to the transportation of Western politicians who went to Kyiv on a train of Ukrainian Railways from Poland. It was also possible to successfully complete the transportation of US President Joe Biden. Some American papers referred to this connection as Rail Force One.

Now Kamyshin is the Minister of Strategic Industry of Ukraine and is responsible for the development of the defense industrial complex. This complex consists of 500 defense plants across the country, both government and private, some of which are secret and others underground. A total of 400 of them are focused on working with drones. We are focused on making Ukraine an arsenal of the free world,” said Minister Kamyshin.

A well-informed source from the Ukrainian arms industry described to El Mundo the progress that has taken place in the field. “At the moment, we are not only producing ammunition, which is so needed, but we are producing all types of drones, including naval and land drones, Kozak armored personnel carriers, Neptun missiles, or Stugna-P anti-tank systems,” he said.

“We have been able to triple production since the beginning of 2023. Last year we focused on the production of drones of all kinds, among them naval drones such as the Magura, which has already sent five large Russian ships to the bottom. This year we are perfecting ground drones,” he said.

“But now we are most concerned that all the newly built factories remain hidden from the enemy. We found several traitors among the workers. and that could cost not only equipment, but above all human lives,” he concluded.
