Actually, we have really spoiled ourselves with our own achievements, if we take it from the point of view of the whole country. In the Czech Republic, it has been possible to build a sufficiently robust social system, which, however, does not function only as a safety net for the needy, but as a kind of benefit machine, where literally anyone can come, without any special examination of eligibility.

What pays you more?

In a number of Western countries, they have already understood that it cannot continue like this. Therefore, they have set harsh conditions for the long-term unemployed, and those who, for example, refuse the offered job a few times will simply lose benefits. However, this is not the case in the Czech Republic.

And although we have very low unemployment on paper, which hovers around 4%, in reality, in domestic conditions where everyone can find a job in a few days, it means that there are hundreds of thousands of long-term unemployed people. That is, those who simply refuse to work. They calculated that it is better for them to laze around for days and do nothing, and apply for contributions once a month.

These can be relatively high and easily reach tens of thousands of crowns. While some earn such money through honest work, even if they only have a minimal or deeply below-average salary, others just reach out and receive essentially the same funds from the state. Or rather, from other taxpayers who rely on them.

Money grows on trees

A large part of these benefits is the housing allowance, which in the case of people without income can reach a really significant amount. You can get up to 80% of the rent, which, for example, when paying 15,000, means that the state will give you 12,000 crowns.

The allowances for children are very generous, which is probably good on the one hand, but on the other hand, it should be said that it should somehow be better regulated. In the case of an adult and two children, it is possible to reach a living wage of 10,000 crowns.

There are also a number of different ways of assistance available, which add up to a fairly decent package. But all this should end. If someone refuses a job, they will have new problems in the Czech Republic as well. According to the new conditions for social benefits, work should be at least to some extent compulsory.
