Huawei introduced a new edition of the Watch 4 Pro series of smart watches. The original model was launched last summer, when we tried it out, and now it has a new sibling. Huawei Watch 4 Pro Space Edition this time they bet on a space theme, which they use especially on virtual dials. The color design of the body has also changed slightly, but in terms of equipment, the watch is almost identical to its predecessor.

It means that we have a big, massive watch again, but not as heavy as the dimensions (especially the 13mm thickness) might suggest. The body and link strap of the watch are made of titanium, which is a favorable sign of the weight of just under 70 grams. The dark gray metallic color of the watch is enlivened by two red semi-arcs on the non-rotating bezel, which stand out especially under a light source, otherwise they are rather inconspicuous.

The watch again has a circular AMOLED display with a diameter of 1.5 inches and a resolution converted to a square of 466 × 466 pixels. In last year’s model, we criticized the convex cover glass of the display, which reflects more ambient glare than if it were normally flat. This does not change in any way this year, everything will be reflected in the display outside in daylight, but you can probably get used to it over time.

Huawei’s Watch 4 series differs from the Watch GT 4 series mainly in that it supports a built-in eSIM. As a result, you can make calls with the watch independently of your mobile phone. But for now only with a separate phone number, Czech operators do not support number cloning for Huawei watches. In the same way, it is not yet possible to pay contactless with the watch, although this function is also built into the hardware.
A sleeker experience and one new feature
The cosmic edition comes with the newly launched version of the Harmony OS 4 watch system. Compared to last year’s tested version 3, the new environment is a little more graphically unified, it is easier to work with widgets in the horizontal menu, the main menu can again be displayed in a vertical list or as a cluster of icons. The selection of preset watch faces is much wider and most of them also have their graphically appropriate Always on mode, which saves battery.
The environment contains several references to space in the form of dials, from which you can choose, for example, an animation of an astronaut weightlessly marching on the lunar surface or floating somewhere on a space station. New are three quick dials on the bottom button, which will make it easier to switch applications
The phone contains GPS and can track more than a hundred different sports and movement activities. In addition, it can measure heart rate, blood oxygenation, skin temperature, stiffness of arteries, level of stress, monitor the progress of sleep and also record an EKG. The bottom flat button serves as an electrode for this. In addition, within Harmony OS 4, this also received the function of quick access to the shortcuts of three applications, which you can set and launch them from any place in the environment. It’s not multitasking yet, but faster switching between apps is. In addition, the watch can work with its own miniature QWERTY keyboard and use it to respond to incoming messages with other than preset responses – last year’s model was also able to do this.

The Huawei Watch 4 Pro Space Edition was first introduced in China, where one of their few completely new features was also highlighted – support for UWB, i.e. wireless technology operating over a short distance but with an accuracy of tens of centimeters.
The watch can be used to unlock the Aito M9 car
It is thanks to UWB that owners of Aito M9 cars in China, whose development is also supported by Huawei, can unlock their car completely contactless using the watch when they approach it and give it various voice commands. European users probably won’t use this trick right away. At the moment, the European price of the watch is not known either, but it should fit within 20 thousand crowns.
