It has come. Solar panels will be mandatory for all houses and apartments in the Czech Republic. A deadline has been set from when you have to have them on the roof

--

You may have thought that some solar panels and photovoltaic systems could be stolen from you. Some people simply do not trust them and see no need to install them in their family homes. So far it has been a truly free choice, but as it turns out, that was only the first stage. Now comes the real pressure and responsibilities.

Is it really convenient?

The truth is that in our latitudes and longitudes, the usefulness of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of houses is debatable, to say the least. They can be fully used only in spring and summer, when the sun really shines on them. But this is also the period when energy consumption is the lowest. It stays light for a long time and practically does not heat up. Conversely, in autumn and winter, when electricity consumption rises, photovoltaics produce almost nothing.

Sure, it’s nice to be somewhat self-sufficient, but you also need to count the costs. And solar technology provided by various installation companies is not the cheapest. Although the panels themselves are very cheap to get, the companies have high margins and they sin that people get a subsidy for the system. But even with it, the average photovoltaic costs some 200 to 300 thousand crowns. you need to calculate what the return on such an investment is. And also take into account the fact that the quality of panels and batteries degrade over time and after a certain time they will need to be replaced.

But if you keep hesitating, you’ll probably end up with nothing anyway. The European Union has decided that photovoltaic power plants will be mandatory for all public and private buildings. Including family houses and apartment buildings, as reported by the PV Tech server.

When will the photovoltaic system become mandatory?

  • 2025: Newly constructed public and commercial buildings
  • 2027: Reconstructed public and commercial buildings
  • 2029: Newly built family and apartment buildings

Later also for older houses

So far, it has only been decided that you do not build a new family house without putting a photovoltaic system on it. Later, it will probably be extended to reconstructions, which will be even more painful.

However, it cannot be ruled out that the obligation will eventually also apply to older buildings and family homes, although this will probably come later. With plans to require all, even older homes, to meet a certain level of energy efficiency from 2030 and these criteria to become more stringent over time, the opposite is highly likely.
