The export of electric cars from Germany increased by leaps and bounds last year

The value of exports rose to 36 billion euros (901.6 billion CZK) from 24.2 billion euros (605.29 billion crowns) in 2022. The value of imports increased to 14.1 billion from 10.5 billion euros the year before.

China, Korea and the Czech Republic

The most important importer of electric cars was China with a share of 29 percent. China’s share more than doubled compared to the previous year, hovering around 12 percent in 2022. The second was the Republic of Korea, whose share in total imports was almost ten percent. The Czech Republic finished third with a share of 9.3 percent.

On the contrary, Germany exported the most electric cars to the Netherlands last year, which accounted for 15.6 percent of German exports. It was followed by Britain with a share of 13.4 percent and Belgium, which had a share of 12.4 percent of German exports of electric cars.

Last year, 973,000 electric cars were produced in Germany, a year-on-year increase of 59.9 percent. However, the production of cars with an internal combustion engine still prevails, increasing by 7.9 percent to 2.4 million last year.

The automotive industry in Germany leads

The automotive industry is the largest manufacturing sector in Germany by turnover. Last year, the 63 companies involved in the production of passenger cars and passenger car engines had a record turnover of 430.5 billion euros, thanks in part to rising prices. Year-on-year turnover rose by 19.3 percent. Foreign sales made up three quarters of the total turnover.

Last year, according to data from the Federal Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA), 524,200 electric cars were newly registered in Germany, which was 11.4 percent more than the year before. The number of registrations of cars with an internal combustion engine rose by 6.4 percent to 2.3 million.
