Very interesting and slightly unconventional is the fairy tale Three Veterans, which came to cinema screens in 1984. Since then, it has been one of the favorite films of many of us. Let’s now remember this legendary Czech fairy tale together.
The fairy tale Three Veterans was directed by Oldřich Lipský based on the fairy tale of the same name from the book by Jan Werich. This work was Lipský’s penultimate film, and he took great care in it. It is a really interesting mixture of adventure, humor, but also magic and fantasy, which was not so standard at the time of its release, so Three Veterans deviates slightly from traditional Czech fairy tales. The film is accompanied by three main characters, three retired friends, soldiers Pankrác, Bimbác and Servác.
These three friends are wandering aimlessly through the world when they come across a trio of elves who give them miraculous items to improve them and make them happy not only for themselves but also for other people. A magic hat will help them conjure things, a bottomless pouch will get them as much gold as they want, and a magic harp will conjure up any people from soldiers to chefs. With these gifts, it could be said that they do not lack anything for happiness and will live their lives in complete happiness and prosperity. However, the opposite is true! They fell in love with the beautiful, but treacherous and cunning princess Bosana, who robbed them and her father of magical objects, and they were once again left broke. The goblins here represent good and patient beings, so they give them another chance to fix everything, which the veterans will succeed. There are many lessons in the fairy tale that are good to think about.
