Chomutov – The Railway Depository of the National Technical Museum in Chomutov opened its doors to the public, starting a new visitor season and at the same time presenting newly restored locomotives that will complement the unique collection of rolling stock.

The opening ceremony was held on behalf of the National Technical Museum by Director General Karel Ksandr, Deputy Governor for Tourism, Culture and Heritage Care Jiří Řehák, Senior Director of the Live Art Section of the Ministry of Culture Milan Němeček and Senator for Chomutovska Přemysl Rabas came to support the event.

Almost 100 rail vehicles of various types can be viewed in the depository – from a steam locomotive built in 1870 to new traction vehicles a century later. On display are locomotives of the former ČSD, saloon cars, passenger and motor cars, electric and motor locomotives, historic trains and vehicles that have been decommissioned relatively recently. The newly restored locomotives are: steam locomotive 464.102 “Ušatá” from 1940, freight steam locomotive 411.019 “Conrad Vorlauf” from 1873, tender steam locomotive 210.001 “Serényi” from 1905 and battery locomotive Ringhoffer No. 2 from 1916.

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, the first public run of the NTM train headed by steam locomotive 464.102 “Ušatá” from 1940 will take place. The train will travel along the route Ústí nad Labem–Teplice in Bohemia–Bílina–Most–Chomutov–Žatec and back. Destination is the city of Žatec, where a rich accompanying program will take place to start the 2024 tourist season.

Those interested can enjoy a ride on the National Technical Museum’s reconstructed train set pulled by a steam locomotive and combine the experience of the trip with a visit to Žatec, where the “unlocking of the new season” will take place on this day with a rich program. The attraction of the event is last year’s repaired steam locomotive 464.102 Ušatá, an important operating exhibit from the NTM collection, which will stand at the head of the train. The locomotive is a unique document of the interwar Czechoslovak steam locomotive design school and served on the tracks until 1978. The train set includes typical and unique vehicles produced in the 1960s and 1980s. The basis of the set consists of a passenger car with a service compartment of the BDa series from 1974, cars of the Bai series from 1973-74, a couchette car with a buffet compartment BRcm from 1984 and an express car with coupes I. and II. class ABa series from 1973.

Online sales of train tickets take place at www.ntm.cz. Select the date April 6 and select the appropriate ride.

Admission to the train in advance is discounted. Tickets will be sold until the train capacity is full. Passengers can use the train ticket until the end of the 2024 summer season as a one-time entrance fee to the NTM Railway Depository in Chomutov. The timetable, details about the set and other information can be found at www.ntm.cz.
