137 million crowns. Prague is investing so much in cyclists this year. This year, several cycle paths will be created and others will be repaired by road workers.

“It is a transport mode that is suitable both for the users and for the environment, and ultimately for Prague, because it is also cheaper. It’s a matter that we don’t need to subsidize as much as public transport,” said Prague’s deputy for transport, Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates).

This year’s projects include, for example, the construction of a cycle path from Kačerov to the U Labutě stop in Prague 4.

“Now, by the end of May, the Kačerov cycle path will be built, which is about a kilometer long and is a new construction,” said Josef Richter, director of the Technical Communications Administration.

The construction of a path in Prague 5 from Nádražní and U Královské louka streets will be a priority construction in the area of Prague cycling this year.

,,The extension of the A1 in Nádražní street – it will start to be implemented in the near future and will be completed with the repair of the Barrandovský bridge, that means in the summer, and as for the others, for example the A2, that is the extension there on the other side of the Vltava, so the it will only be implemented after the Barrandovský bridge, because its construction would limit the traffic situation on the Barrandovský bridge,” Richter described.

In Radotín, road workers will expand the left-bank spine route A1 and also build a path from K Cementárně street to Na Drážkách street, which should be ready in the summer. In general, according to the chairman of the Council Commission, Mr. City of Prague for bicycle transport Báry Soukupová cyclists in Prague are increasing every year.

“Actually, the cycling movement is increasing in the wider city, where people use bicycles for public transport. That increase should be up to ten percent per year,” described Bára Soukupová (Piráti), representative of the capital city and chairwoman of the Prague City Council Commission for bicycle transport.

Last year, the people of Prague also made extensive use of shared bikes, which they could borrow for up to 15 minutes on Lítačka for free. The greatest interest was in the city center and along the Vltava River. Last year alone, interest increased by a third, and in the winter months by a fifth.
