The Czech Republic was shaken by the news about three children from Českobudějovick, who lived in a cabin in appalling conditions. Similar cases where they lived in isolation or were abused are not unique in the Czech Republic. Wolf children or the Kurim case, these are just a few stories that shook society in the past.

Police officers from Hluboká nad Vltavou found three small children aged 5, 7 and 8 in a forest cabin. They were supposed to be hungry and neglected. A total of seven people lived in one room measuring 3 x 4 meters after the children’s father allegedly threw them out of the apartment. They did not attend school, went to the toilet behind the hut and did not know how to brush their teeth. The authorities have already taken the children away from the mother, but she has denied the alleged neglect.

Similar cases where child abuse was supposed to occur, but they are not unique. One such thing happened in 2011. It involved two boys who were nicknamed the wolf children. According to the authorities, the boy, who was three and a half years old, and his brother, who was two years younger, never left the walls of one of the Prague apartment buildings. Their existence after home births was kept secret from the authorities, pediatricians and even the immediate family. Neglected boys ended up in a children’s home, father and mother before the court. According to what they reported years ago, they didn’t miss children.

A similar case took place in Kašperské Hory. The family raised nine children without electricity or running water. The children studied at home and the surrounding world was completely foreign to them. The family became interested in the media in 2011, when a search began for one of their daughters, who was seriously ill and, according to doctors, in danger of life. In the end, it turned out that the parents took Perla, as the girl was called, to Spain themselves.

The so-called Kurim case is also known. The two abused boys did not go to school, their mother taught them at home. The boys were abused by a neighbor in 2007 when he tried to fire the babysitter who was looking after his child. But he tuned in to the frequency from the house next door and at that moment he saw a handcuffed boy on the ground. The so-called Kurim case is unprecedented in the Czech Republic. The siblings were abused by a group of six people, including their mother. They drowned Jakub and Ondra, burned them with cigarettes and cut off pieces of their flesh. They all ended up behind bars. The court handed down sentences ranging from five to ten years.
