The new spa season in Karlovy Vary will be heralded by a whole series of events from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th May. Streets, promenades, colonnades, parks and other places come alive with music, dance and theatre.
“Karlovy Vary is no longer just a seasonal destination, and the number of visitors last winter and this spring is proof of that. However, the ceremonial opening of the spa season is for us a symbolic and very important cultural and social event to support the spa and its promotion as part of a healthy lifestyle,” explained the mayor of Karlovy Vary, Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová, about the significance of the festivities.
At the same time, she pointed out that the start of the season with the program is also a reminder of the city’s inscription on the UNESCO list.

“As well as promoting a wide range of activities that make Karlovy Vary an attractive destination. At the same time, the start of the season is an exceptional opportunity for us to present the city’s highest awards to selected personalities who have significantly contributed to the city’s reputation,” added Pfeffer Ferklová.
Blessing of the springs and parade
The program for the opening of the spa season in Karlovy Vary is based on tried and tested elements, but several new features have also been added. The Karlovy Vary springs will receive a ceremonial blessing.
“Just like last year, the papal nuncio Jude Thaddeus Okolo will take care of it, who will also celebrate the solemn mass in the church of St. Máří Magdalény,” said municipality spokeswoman Helena Kyselá.
There will be a traditional procession of King Charles IV. and its numerous pulps, dances of court ladies, duels of knights and performances of jugglers. “Smetana orchards will turn into a fair, children will find creative workshops there. The stage at Alžbětina lázně will belong to star performers and famous hits,” noted Kyselá, adding that this year’s concerts by the bands Žlutý pes, Poetika, singer Lenny, Petr Novák’s hits will be sung by Petr Bende, accompanied by his band and the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra.

Karlovy Vary will be the first to officially open the season this year.
“A new addition to the program is a fashion show by Beata Rajská on the Garden Colonnade and its surroundings, which will be freely accessible to the public,” said the city spokeswoman.
“The Mattoni Grand Drink – the world championship in mixing non-alcoholic cocktails will also take place for the first time as part of the opening of the season on the embankment near Thermal. The space in front of the Thermal hotel will be part of the Beer & Grill Fest culinary show again this year,” explained Kyselá.
Galleries and other places are also involved in the program of city celebrations, for example Becher’s Villa, the Karlovy Vary Art Gallery, the Karlovy Vary Museum, the Castle Tower with an interactive UNESCO exhibition, the Office of City Architecture with an outdoor exhibition of 6 years of KAM or the Imperial Baths, which are opening a new Three Worlds exhibition .
