Problems ahead of the half-marathon: The organizers are desperately short of volunteers

ZLÍN – The largest cross-country race in Moravia is facing problems. The 9th edition of the MONET+ Zlín Festival Half-Marathon is scheduled to start on Sunday, June 2, but the organizers are facing a severe lack of volunteers.

The main race will start from the Congress Center in Zlín on Sunday at 10 a.m. and around two thousand runners could take the route. This also brings with it certain restrictions in transport and other measures that require the maximum commitment of the organizers and a large number of volunteers. However, the Zlín Film Festival is having difficulties with their recruitment this year.

“At the moment, we are still missing more than half of the 120 volunteers we need to help with the race,” said Zlín Film Festival Executive Director Jarmila Záhorová, adding that it is extremely difficult to get volunteers for this part of the festival program because of traffic management it is necessary that at least half of the applicants are over 18 years of age. “We are actively reaching out to secondary schools and sports clubs in the region and asking them to cooperate in organizing the half-marathon. They will be rewarded not only with a number of benefits, but also, I believe, a good feeling that they could be part of such a big sporting event,” emphasized Jarmila Záhorová.

A family run of 1,400 meters is traditionally part of the festival half-marathon. It starts at 15:00 from Náměstí Míru and can be attended by parents with children or those who prefer shorter routes.
