A major reconstruction of the station building in Klatovy has been planned for several years. Now passengers will finally see it. These days, the Railway Administration issued a tender for a contractor with an estimated value of 393 million crowns. In the listed building from 1959, the interior spaces will be used more effectively, the entire station will be wheelchair accessible. “The start of the construction itself is planned for this autumn, it should be finished at the beginning of 2027,” informed the spokesperson of the Railway Administration, Nela Eberl Friebová.

It will mainly involve the reconstruction of the check-in hall and both wings of the building. “New public toilets will be built, all internal spaces will be modified to meet current requirements. Bus drivers will also get their facilities from the planned terminal, which will be built in the area in front of the station. Not only the building, but the entire station will be barrier-free, thanks to the elevators that will connect the underpass with the platforms and the check-in hall. Cyclists will appreciate the brick shed for bikes,” the spokeswoman described.

Construction of the terminal will also begin this year, which will fundamentally transform the space in front of the station. “There will be covered stops on both sides, there will be bus stops in the middle of the area. They will enter the railway station from Nádražní Street. There will be an entrance to the car park from Hlávkova street. This parking lot should have a capacity of 106 parking spaces, including 6 spaces for people with limited mobility. The parking spaces will be divided into sections, which will be separated by green islands with trees,” described the deputy mayor of Klatov, Pavel Strolený.

Currently, the approval of tender documentation and the selection of a supplier are taking place. Construction is expected to start within three months and be completed around the middle of 2025. “Around the middle of 2025, we also expect follow-on investments from the city of Klatovy, i.e. repairs to surfaces, networks in Nádražní Street and connections to the new entrance to the terminal, cycle paths and car parking, ” added the deputy mayor.
