The court also decided to pay almost 600,000 crowns to the half-sister of the murdered man. Machala pleaded guilty, but reserved a deadline for possible appeals regarding the amount of the sentence. The accomplice accepted the sentence, and public prosecutor Vít Legerský also waived a possible appeal. The court increased his original proposal to eighteen and a half years in prison. The penalty rate was fifteen to twenty years, an extraordinary higher penalty was also considered.

Machal’s confession could have been a mitigating circumstance, but the judge pointed out how he viewed his act in the long term. “Absolute callousness and indifference,” she pointed out, pointing out that during police questioning Machal did not regret his act and called the murdered man a moron. He continued to dump feces into the cesspool and looked to see if the body could be seen.

The fact that he has fifteen records in his criminal record, including three violent acts, made it difficult for him. Forty years ago, he murdered his girlfriend and stabbed her suitor, for which he served fourteen years. He is also guilty of causing bodily harm and assaulting a public official, most likely a supervisor due to the time of the crime. He was last released from prison in 2009.

Stabs in the chest, abdomen and back

The murder took place on November 9, 2022, on the premises of a company in Sviadnov, where the attacker and his victim worked part-time and together with other workers lived in uni cells. Most of their free time was spent watching TV and drinking alcohol.

That was also the case on the fateful evening. A drunken Machala quarreled with a 54-year-old man and threw him out of the uni cell. There, the argument escalated into a fight. “He finally grabbed my leg and told me he was going to kill me,” Machala told police. He refused to testify in court.

After these words, he went for his older hunting knife with an almost twenty-centimeter blade and stabbed the man twice in the stomach. As he fell to his knees, he added another powerful stab to the back.

“The blade hit the stomach, lungs and heart, the attacked man died within a few minutes,” stated the public prosecutor. Machala didn’t care about rescue or first aid.
