Socialist Klatovy

While the Pilsen main station was built under the emperor, the Klato station under Antonín Novotný. Its 1959 building has been preserved in its original state with a number of valuable arts and crafts features including sgraffito in the check-in hall created in the spirit of socialist realism. “The decoration will remain,” Pavel Domanický from the Pilsen administration of the National Monuments Institute told Novinkám.

“Protection applies mainly to the exterior appearance of the building as well as the most important interiors, i.e. mainly the vestibule. Small changes are of course possible, for example if there will be a different number of dispensing windows or counters in front of them,” added Domanický.

Railway renaissance

Pilsen – Jižní Předměstí station grew in two stages. Sixteen years later, a Neo-Renaissance building was added to the Art Nouveau building built in 1904, which now has a private owner and was transformed into the Moving Station cultural center. It continues to serve its original purpose. “And it should be largely given the original form of the First Republic,” said Domanický.

According to preservationists, the building was damaged by insensitive modifications at the end of the eighties. “Unsuitable interventions should now be partially removed. For example, the roof covering should be returned instead of the current sheet metal,” noted Domanický.
