Readers think Putin wants to restore the Soviet Union. They reject the attack on the Czech Republic

--

Two thirds of the readers who voted in the Deníku.cz poll are not afraid that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict will spread to our territory. So far, over seven thousand have voted. So they are more optimistic than most European leaders. For example, the British Prime Minister announced this week that the UK will put the arms industry on a war footing.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THE ARTICLE:

All sorts of arguments came up in our discussion. “Superiority North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is fivefold to sixfold. The Russian army is not technologically capable of competing with it. Its disastrous logistics, incompetent command, inability to learn from mistakes and technological backwardness make it a very bad army,” thinks Dominik Polák, for example.

But someone is not so sure and points out, for example, that we are allegedly responsible for the possibility of a Russian attack, as we unreservedly support the attacked Ukraine. “The entire republic is working on ammunition for Ukraine. And then, when the bombs fly, we will say that Russia attacked us,” writes one of the readers.

Another one talks about the fact that Russian aggression has been indirectly threatening us for a long time. “The Russian-Ukrainian conflict has already affected our country, at least through pro-Russian narratives and undermining the foundations of democracy. A certain part of society is trying to disrupt our stability in the European Union and the NATO defense pact with the help of disinformation and lies,” he warns.

Leading European politicians warn that conflict with Russia is imminent. Vladimir Putin rejects it:

Can the conflict between Russia and Ukraine spread to our territory? We bring arguments

It is interesting that the majority of readers voted for some of the arguments we presented, which talk about the danger from the Russian side. For example, almost two-thirds of voters think that Vladimir Putin wants to restore the Soviet Union. And a significant majority also agrees that a NATO member state will be attacked in the future and that Czech soldiers will join the fighting.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The aggression, which clearly contradicts international law, was also condemned by the United Nations. The European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization support the defending country with supplies of humanitarian aid, weapons and ammunition. But their armies are not involved in the conflict.

Stanislav Ševčík: They scare us because of profits
I was in the army in the eighties, when army functionaries lectured us (some were still young and maybe still serving) how dangerous the West is and that NATO is an offensive pact. And we must learn to defend against them.

The year 1989 came, the political change and the same military officials began to sign cooperation agreements with the offensive pact, which resulted in joining NATO, with these misguided officers immediately rushing into high positions in this community. The question is why… Like most of these people, they probably went for a high income and subsequently got into politics. Today they are lecturing us about how their former friend Russia is dangerous for Europe, but when asked why they signed the agreement that NATO would not expand to Ukraine, they answer that everyone can make their own decisions.

The fact that we are afraid that Russia will attack us is again only for the benefit of the arms companies, from which the government outfits and the people around them have huge profits. Assets flow from these arms concerns to various accounts in foreign banks.

Dominik Polák: The Russian army is weak
The Russian army does not have anywhere near as much military power as the North Atlantic Alliance. There are several reasons. When you compare the NATO forces and the Russian forces in numbers, it is clear that the superiority of NATO is five to six times. Russian army in addition it is not technologically capable of competing with NATO armies. Its disastrous logistics, incompetent command, inability to learn from mistakes and technological backwardness make it a very poor army. So the Russian army does not have and will never (thank God) have anti-NATO forces.

Email address oledav: We are responsible for the bombs
When the bombs fly, the Czech Republic will be first in line. The government of the Czech Republic is playing with fire. And she is the first to start a war. The entire republic is working on ammunition for Ukraine. And then, when the bombs go off, we’ll say we’ve been invaded by Russia.

Petr Ježek: There will be peace
Those who fueled wars and enmity between nations on a global and local level will disappear this year and the world will begin to build a peaceful golden era of humanity. That’s what happens.

Vlastimil Palko: Ordinary Ukrainians don’t care about war
It is a lie based on Ukraine’s inability to defend the annexed territories from an aggressor and is intended to draw the West into the defense of territory that the Ukrainian leader is not willing to sacrifice to stop the war. The Ukrainians who fled Europe are proof that ordinary people don’t give a damn. It is necessary to recognize new boundaries!

The question of whether Ukraine should accept peace at the price of losing territory, or continue fighting, attracted a record number of readers:

Should Ukraine fight on? The reader poll produced a surprising result

Václav Černota: There will be no war
There won’t be a war between Russia and NATO, but it doesn’t hurt to prepare.

Jiří Cibulka: I don’t trust Putin or that actor, I can’t remember his name
Who knows what it’s like. Ukrainians live not far from us, one has a Mercedes-Benz Maybach and the other drives an Audi. Cars for three million. At the same time, there is a fight in Ukraine…

Vladimir Bulka: Putin is a coward
After Europe, Ukrainians primarily support their families at home, their salaries do not do much for them. And yes, they often have expensive cars, bought older, cheap used cars – it’s a matter of prestige for them, but for us it’s more a sign of a certain primitiveness of the owner. Putler is above all a big coward – look what he did during covid. Huddled in a bunker, he received visitors after three tests, a week’s quarantine and behind a ten-meter table. Wherever he can, he sends doubles, he’s never been to the front, Zelensky is there every now and then.

Discussion thread 313202: Talk of an attack is propaganda
Theories about an attack on NATO countries by Russia are the product of propaganda, just like the products of Medvedev. There are Russians in Ukraine for several reasons, and probably the main one is its non-membership in NATO and the EU (the country with the highest known but hidden corruption in Europe, the special relationship of many citizens to their own country and the most economically indebted state in Europe at least). Next will probably be events in the territories of eastern Ukraine with a significant Russian minority, as well as the reluctance of most EU countries.

At least by pro-Russian narratives and undermining the foundations of democracy, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has already affected our country. A certain part of society is trying to disrupt our stability in the European Union and the NATO defense pact with the help of disinformation and lies. Fortunately, it does not bear fruit as, for example, in Slovakia.

Ukrainians invaded Russia, so leave them alone.

It can, if we are still on the side of Ukraine and supplying it with weapons. The war would be over long ago. Ukraine can’t do it, it just fools the whole world.

Above all, it is necessary to get involved in the defense of Ukraine. Each of us can do something.

According to the Russian president, NATO is trying to intimidate the population in order to maintain their support for further aid to Ukraine:

Russian President Vladimir Putin during a speech at a meeting of the leadership of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in Moscow, February 28, 2023.

A Russian attack on the Czech Republic or Poland? Absolute nonsense, says Putin

I’m not afraid, it’s a local conflict over the territory where the Russian-speaking population lives mainly… Sit down and talk about peace.

You give them a finger and they grab your shoulder. The Russian must be “locked” within his borders. It should not have happened that he just took Crimea.

They are intruders, and you must always fear them and fight them in advance.

Putin is not crazy, he has no desire to conquer some territories. We have fools in government, that’s where the greatest danger comes from.

What is Black and White for?

Black and white. Special dedicated to topics that move societyBlack and white. Special dedicated to topics that move societySource: Diary

We are told not to see the world in black and white. This column seems to deny it. But not if we can see at the same time black and whitewe look in color.

Opinion. We all have an opinion. We have the right to freedom of opinion. But what is it? “A Jew is not a man” is an opinion. And it is both heinous and criminal. “Gypsies on the gas” is an opinion, but you can also end up in the bass for it. We intuitively understand why, but where is the freedom?

Leaving the criminal law aside, the above statements are not worth arguing about. As with someone who claims that the covid vaccination is mass-killing, or that we are chipped by it. Or with someone who denies that Russia is the aggressor and has started a war against Ukraine and that it has the right to reclaim the looted territories.

Then there are questions that depend on our nature, upbringing or knowledge: If there is a God or not. If a holiday by the sea or in the mountains is better. If it is better to donate to an animal shelter or the homeless, if punk or the Vienna Philharmonic is better, if a stork or a lizard is prettier. If the rain is disgusting or beautiful, if it is necessary to cope with colonialism even in Central European conditions. If Uber, or Bolt, Matuska, or Gott. And so on.

And then there are disputes where both sides have good arguments. When is it useless to argue? When we should understand each other and look for the best solution. I’ve been watching and writing opinions for thirty years, I think I know a little about them. IN rubric Black and white I summarize factually and logically the arguments of both sides for you, the readers of the Journal.
