Jiří Šindler, the independent mayor of Štěpánov in Olomouc, shows on the map where the planned Danube-Odra-Labe canal was originally supposed to lead according to the cadastre of the city. It is mainly a field between Moravská Huzová and Stádle.

In the future, family houses could be built there, a bike path is also being considered. This year, the city management is preparing a change in the zoning plan.

They think similarly in nearby Pňovice. According to the original plans, a wharf and transshipment area were to be built there. Instead, independent mayor Radovan Štábl is now planning a bike path.

According to the spokeswoman of the Olomouc governorship, Alena Minxová, the territory along the planned route of the canal has been blocked since 2010. The municipalities can now count on the previously blocked land again.

“Abolition of the territorial reserve does not mean the possibility of immediately stopping the unblocked land. It must be fairly emphasized that it will be a process lasting about one year,” explains the spokesperson.

According to Minxová, it is not yet clear how the Olomouc region itself will deal with the unblocked land. It will be resolved by the representatives of the governorship within the upcoming Update No. 6 of the Principles of Territorial Development of the Olomouc Region.
