At Monday’s meeting, the Prague Council approved a donation of six million crowns to the Prague Audiovisual Foundation Fund for this year. Finances through the fund will go to support the presentation of the capital through films and series.

Prague is the traditional center of the Czech film industry and a popular destination not only for foreign film crews.

“One of the key conditions for obtaining funds is that Prague authentically represents our city in the film. Thanks to this, we will contribute to a great presentation around the world and help the city become visible and attract not only filmmakers, but also viewers, and thus continue to develop the so-called film tourism industry,” said Prague’s Deputy Mayor for Culture Jiří Pospíšil (TOP 09).

Funds are provided from the endowment fund for feature films intended for foreign distribution in cinemas, but also for projects and serial formats broadcast on foreign TV stations or distributed via prepaid streaming services.

Newly, in special calls, the fund also supports student projects with the potential to participate in foreign festivals. The essential condition remains that Prague should really represent Prague in the filmed work. The first Call for Student Audiovisual Projects is currently being announced.

The Prague Audiovisual Foundation, originally Nadační fond Praha in the film Prague Film Fund, was founded by a resolution of the Prague council eight years ago. Since its inception, the fund has already issued eleven calls. In recent years, the foundation fund allocated contributions in the amount of 62.56 million crowns to a total of 63 audiovisual projects.
