An extraordinary event awaits Czech hockey fans this year: from December 5 to 8, Prague will be occupied by an event called the Winter Hockey Games. Because of it, a special arena for more than 16,000 spectators with a view of Prague Castle will be created on the Letenská plain.
“We are preparing a completely unique hockey ‘Santa Claus’ special, the aim of which is to offer the Czech audience top hockey from the highest competitions of three Central European countries,” said Andrea Barsony from the organizing agency Eniva.
In addition to university hockey, the schedule includes matches of the Czech, but also the German and Slovak extra leagues – and at the end a battle between the Czech legends and the World’s Choice. The ambassadors of the event and one of the best Czechs in the history of the NHL, Patrik Eliáš and Jakub Voráček, participate in the team formations; both should jump on the ice as well.
“And believe that this match will not lack prestige and emotions! I am really looking forward to it. In my career, I had the opportunity to play against a lot of great hockey players from different countries, and I hope that we will be able to bring some of them to Prague,” he added in the Voráček press release.
Although he is 99.9 percent finished with his top career, he would like to show off his gear at Letná: “I hope my health will allow it.”
So does Eliáš, the legend of the New Jersey Devils.
“Putting on the national team shirt has always been an honor for me – and it’s no different for legends. Although many fans may not realize it, getting into such a selection is not easy either. I’m looking forward to meeting the boys again and I’m sure that by choosing the world we will clearly show who is the master of Letná,” added Eliáš.
