As every year, the Prague 4 district honored the memory of those who fell in the Prague Uprising at the very end of the Second World War.

The heroes who did not hesitate to lay down their lives defending Prague and the homeland have their own monument at the entrance to Jezerka Park. This place was not chosen by chance.

As part of the Prague Uprising, more people even died than during the landing of American soldiers in Normandy on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, which is depicted in a number of films and video games as one of the most brutal and bloodiest encounters of the Second World War.

Today, although we already know a number of names that we can admire for their brave deeds, there are still a lot of those that we don’t know much about, but also need to be remembered.

Even after so many years since the end of the Second World War, it still makes sense to remember such actions and heroes, especially when the war conflict in Ukraine is going on not far from us.

The Prague Uprising broke out in the Czech capital on May 5, 1945. At that time, the Czech National Council issued a statement about the end of the protectorate and the takeover of government and executive power. First there were demonstrations, which later turned into armed resistance, during which three thousand people died.
