Although this year’s burning of witches in Prague was limited by the ban on making bonfires, the Prague 6 district did not interrupt the 18-year-old tradition in Ladronka Park. The organizers have met the safety conditions.
“The first is the presence of firefighters, we have long-standing cooperation with the Lysolaj firefighters. Then the second condition was to report to the regional fire brigade, we also fulfilled that and then ensured that nothing could be caught in the vicinity, and today we expanded the perimeter around the border so that nothing could really be caught,” said Libor Bezděk (ODS), chairman of the sports commission and free time Municipal Council Prague 6.
During the afternoon, Ladronka was filled by almost 15,000 people who came to watch the traditional burning of witches.

“The atmosphere is excellent, I like the crowds, how excited they are, wearing costumes.”
The event also included an accompanying program led by a rich music scene.
“For children, we have a magical trail here, we also have a competition for the most beautiful mask, and bands like Maxim Turbulenc have performed here, or now Jakub Ondra is playing behind us, or in the evening the UDG band,” added Bezděk.
“I used to go to witches here as a kid and I always listened to the bands that played on the main stage and I thought to myself, if I could play here one day too. And it finally happened, it was absolutely amazing. We are very happy that we got such a good time, when the sun was setting, the weather was beautiful, in the end it wasn’t even windy. Great,” described musician Jakub Ondra.
As every year, a small fire pit was available next to the central fire, where people could roast pork chops all afternoon and have fun to their own taste.
