The modification concerns the connection between the northern and southern parts of the forest with a length of almost two kilometers, which is in a very bad condition. It connects the city districts of Jih and Stará Bělá.
“The project follows on from the completed Cesta vody, which connected the two sources of the Vyškovické stream. A small Priessnitz spa, an attraction for children or an educational route was thus created on the route,” recalled Ostrava spokeswoman Gabriela Pokorná. The town hall paid 18 million crowns for the Water Path.
Dents and cracks
The surfaces of the forest roads in the Bělské les are currently damaged by potholes and cracks, and the surface structure of the current cover has also disintegrated.
“Therefore, it will be necessary to remove the existing upper structural layers and replace them with a new, reinforced cover. In the preparatory phase, a comparison of two alternatives of a possible solution was made in order to determine the financial cost of the repairs. The technical feasibility and possible repetition of identical failures were also assessed,” explained Ostrava Deputy Mayor for Investments Břetislav Riger (Ostravak).
Along with the repair of the roads, according to the deputy, the affected adjacent terrain will also be restored and grassed. After the completion of the construction work, the repaired section will be more comfortable for pedestrians and cyclists. At the same time, traffic serviceability during forest management will be improved.
From the south side of Chrobákova street, access to the chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes and to the well of the Mother of God, whose renovation was part of the Cesta vody project, will also be improved.
