The hockey players also lost to the Swiss, they remained without a last point, Finland won the Czech hockey games

--

Brno – The Czech hockey players lost 1:2 to the Swiss in the general round at the home world championship, which will begin on Friday in Prague and Ostrava. At the Czech Games in Brno (Betano Hockey Games), coach Radim Rulík’s team finished last without a point with a total score of 2:8, and took third place in the Euro Hockey Tour series. Finland won the Czech hockey games after five years, defeating the winners of the entire Euro Hockey Tour series, Sweden, 4:3 after separate raids, in a direct fight for the tournament championship.

The Swiss, who had just two points from the previous 11 games of the EHT season, went for their first victory in the first period, winning 2-0 after goals from Dario Simion and Calvin Thürkauf. Goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni kept a clean sheet until 56:43, when defender Jakub Krejčík cut down.

At approximately 9 p.m., a press conference will begin in Brno, at which coach Rulík will announce the final selection of players for the championship, in which 25 hockey players can participate. The Czechs will start the tournament on Friday with a duel against the Finns at 20:20.

The Czechs started in blue retro jerseys without advertisements and started actively. But Krejčík’s throw was covered by Genoni. Immediately, Senteler did not take advantage of the two-to-one renumbering. At the end of the fourth minute, Mašín committed a foul. In the power play, Baragano fired dangerously, Dostál caught him. Weakened, Kaše and Palát ran away, but even Genoni was attentive.

In the ninth minute, however, the Swiss took the lead: Herzog redirected the puck with his skates to Simion, who easily knocked the puck behind Dostál’s back from close range. In the middle of the third, Červenka was close to equalizing. First, he fired dangerously from the circle, got to the stop, but only hit the goal structure with his backhand. Thürkauf was more successful shortly before the break, as he also hooked a backhand under the crossbar from close range.

The second period offered continued destruction of the national team. Kubalík did not succeed right from the start, after a while the first numerical advantage of the Czechs followed, in which Tomášek finished, but Genoni did not let himself be surprised.

In the 27th minute, the Czechs repeated the power play, but with the same result. They then defended themselves after Ščotka’s foul, before the second break Geisser could have increased the difference in the score, but Dostál was against it.

In the 43rd minute, Künzle committed a foul against the rules and the Czechs played a successful power play, but Špaček, Kaše and even Červenka could not unlock the Swiss goal. Already during the game at full strength, Kaše sent another dangerous attempt at Genoni, but he did not erase the zero on the Czech account.

Another complication for the home side was Špaček’s “header” towards Scherwey, for which he received a penalty of 2+2 minutes. Kurashev shot into the side net on the power play, on the other side he was unable to finish off Červenka’s two-on-one renumbering after a counterattack and Sedlák’s offer.

When Siegenthaler was sent off in the 55th minute, after a beautiful interplay, he fired from the center of Kaš, but did not shoot Genoni. In the 57th minute, however, Krejčík succeeded with a shot from the blue line and gave hope. A minute and a half before the end, Dostál left the goal.

Fora shot down Sedlák at 59:24 and received a penalty for five minutes and until the end of the game, but the Czechs did not use the short power play and remained in Brno without a point gain.

Post-match votes:

Radim Rulík (coach of the Czech Republic): “I think it was our weakest game performance. It was much better with the Finns and the Swedes. Besides, we didn’t score goals in those two games. Today the first period was very bad. Then we changed the formation, we overcame the whole thing. The second and The third period wasn’t as bad as the first. We gave it a boost because the game was sluggish. We had no movement at all. So we needed to change it and I have to say that it improved a bit we had a territorial advantage, but we didn’t score a goal. From the second period, the Swiss concentrated on defense and starting the third period, they wanted to defend the result, but we had a power play , we didn’t succeed. They played well when they were weakened.

Ondřej Palát (forward of the Czech Republic): “The match wasn’t the best, we conceded the first two goals, then the Swiss put it in the middle zone and we didn’t manage to take any chances. It’s a shame, we were a bit toothless offensively, we have to improve. It’s just preparation, but of course we have to work on it, we have to improve so that the team can work better in the championship.”

Jakub Krejčík (defender of the Czech Republic, goal scorer): “It wasn’t the best game. The start was bad, then maybe some slight hints of chances, anyway in the first period it was so loud and we scored two goals. It was difficult to get into it. In the third period we got a little under pressure, but already it was a bit late. Of course we want to score goals, but unfortunately it’s hard to say what was behind it. Maybe it’s a bit tying, I don’t know. We’ll please the fans more.”

Lukáš Dostál (CZ goalkeeper): “It was an up-and-down game. There were chances for both sides, but unfortunately the Swiss gave up that extra goal. We lost all three games here, but we take it as preparation. The World Cup tournament starts in five days. Of course, you want to win every match, there will be things that we still have to discuss and evaluate, but the sharp part will start on Friday. There were good things and bad things, but we still have time to work on them.”

The Finns defeated the Swedes 4:3 after raids by the Swedes and won the Czech Hockey Games

Finland won the Czech hockey games after five years, defeating the winners of the entire Euro Hockey Tour series, Sweden, 4:3 after separate raids, in a direct fight for the tournament championship. The winning goal was scored by 17-year-old forward Konsta Helenius, who joined coach Jukka Jalonen’s team during the tournament.

Helenius, who has had a successful season at the club with Jukuritu Helsinki, represented Finland at the home U18 World Cup in Espoo, where his team crashed out after a 2-1 quarter-final defeat by Sweden on Thursday. In the next week before the WC, defender Mikko Lehtonen from the team of the Swiss champion Zurich will be added to the Finns’ squad.

Already in the fourth minute, Suomi had a huge chance, he tried a smart finish between the concretes in the face of Ersson, but the Swedish goalkeeper did not let himself be surprised. In the 18th minute, however, it was Suomi who scored Rissanen’s attempt and sent the Finns into the lead. Before long, he could have increased it, but he missed from close range into an almost empty goal.

In the closing 23rd minute, the Swedes equalized when Dahlin’s pass was well executed by Friberg. Just two minutes and ten seconds passed and Finy put Kaski back in the lead: he shot past Ersson with a quick finish to the bullpen. But in the 28th minute, Unger Sörum blocked Brodin’s shot from outside the circle and it was 2:2.

Less than two minutes later, the Finns took the lead for the third time. Bengtsson’s attempt to pass in his own defensive zone was blocked by Hyry, and Puistola beat Ersson with a precise bluff. The Tre kronor team managed to equalize for the third time, as Frödén successfully finished at the beginning of the 52nd minute.

Czech Hockey Games (Betano Hockey Games), final tournament of the Euro Hockey Tour: Sweden - Finland, May 5, 2024, Brno. Goalkeeper Harri Säteri from Finland gets the equalizer. Further from the left, Marcus Sörensen from Sweden and Veli-Matti Vittasmäki from Finland.

When Raymond didn’t make a big chance in overtime and the Swedes didn’t punish Kapanen’s foul in a short power play, the winner of the match and the tournament had to be decided by raids, which the EHT match reached for the first time this year. The Finns succeeded three times out of five attempts, only Dahlin succeeded in the third series. Helenius scored the winning goal.
