Festival of creativity Maker Faire is preparing a program in Prague for fans of inventions and modern DIY. The main goal is to show everyone that they can create and be makers. The whole family can expect a bombastic program including 140 projects, including huge mythical installations, creative workshops and lots of fun and knowledge. The weekend Maker Faire Prague will take place from May 11 to 12 in the Křižík pavilions at the Prague Exhibition Center.

What do Jules Verne, classical printing and spaghetti have in common?

All this is part of the 140 different projects and activities prepared for visitors to the Maker Faire festival. Fans of bikes and jet drives that can overcome time will be enthralled by the huge Time cruisers. A Dutch project will bring them Abacus Theater. These two and a half meter machines, reminiscent of the fantastic worlds of Jules Verne, are controlled by time travelers. They combine the past, the present and ideas about the future, and they also include elements of recycling, because they gave life to old scrap. It will be difficult not to be impressed by the presence of another foreign installation of the Garuda, a mythical object with a wingspan of more than 12 m and a height of 5 m. Visitors will definitely not miss these program highlights.

What visitors can look forward to

Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the technology of classical printing. They will use the dice in an unconventional way LEGO®and print their own bookmarks. Not only this activity will be exactly in the spirit of the slogan “learning through play”. Learning in the form of a game will also be presented by Homeschoolers from Volavka thanks to the Spaghetti Bridge Challenge – building functional constructions of pasta bridges that are so popular with children. Those interested can try this activity directly at Maker Faire. In addition to the spaghetti ones, there will also be models of bridges that we know from all over the world, as well as straw houses. We will continue to support technical education – this year too, everyone can find out what it looks like in one of the largest car companies in Central Europe thanks to a mobile laboratory Shame on EDULab.

“This year’s program is again more than varied and I have chosen several things that I want to go to the Křižík pavilions with the children to see. We will certainly not miss the space project and the opportunity to see the development of the autonomous Mars Rover,” Tomáš Hübl, chairman of the board of Výstaviště Praha as, which co-organizes the event, is looking forward to it.

How is life on a space station and what must such a rocket have to launch successfully?

The secrets of the universe and the technologies that make it possible to explore them are one of the greatest advances of humanity. That’s why they can’t be missed at Maker Faire. An escape room from HW Lab and students awaits visitors CTU, during which they will experience life on the space station, the CTU Robotics student team will let them see the development of an autonomous Mars Rover, a mini version of which they can even try driving. The team will share technical details of the rover, information about the use of artificial intelligence, computer vision and other experiences. The Czech Rockets Society, which deals with the construction of rockets and the development of rocket engines, will also be present. Young and old visitors can try to build a solid fuel engine and get to know the elements and systems of rockets in detail.

Competitions of all kinds and light installations

The finals of the Robocompetition with the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® construction set will also take place during the festival.

Do-it-yourselfers and racers will be delighted Bosch Derby, where, under the supervision of professionals from Bosch, they create and decorate a toy racing car out of wood, with which they can compete on a long race track. Light installations will offer interactivity through voice-controlled sensors, kinetic light prototypes experimenting with an analog approach, projections and a laser spectacular string will be on display – a unique device on the border between a musical instrument and an art object.

Interesting workshops

An integral part of the Maker Faire Prague festival is the workshop zone, where visitors can choose from a wide range of creative workshops and try to create everything themselves. This year, the organizers prepared, for example, a workshop in the animation workshop of the Aeroschool, where the basic methods of creating the illusion of movement will be presented and the participants will create a short animated film. For the little ones, there is a pre-cinematography workshop where, for example, optical toys await. There will be handicraft workshops such as ceramics, crocheting and moss-making, as well as the much-loved soldering and 3D printing on Original Prusa printers from the company Prusa Researchwhich is the general partner of the festival.

Creating at home

However, creation will not be available as part of the workshops only on site. At the stand Maker Market creativity enthusiasts will be able to purchase, for example, soldering sets, construction kits, ball tracks and much more at home. More advanced soldering kits and arduino will then be purchased by u LaskaKit.
