With a memorial service in front of the Prague 5 Town Hall in Štefániková Street, representatives of our district, led by Mayor Radka Šimková, commemorated the victims of World War II and its end on 8/9. May 1945. By hanging wreaths, they paid tribute to the bravery of the participants in the Prague Uprising and the dedication of members of the Czech nation in wartime events.

Wreaths were also laid in the nearby church of St. Václav, and subsequently at the Nový Smíchov Shopping Center, where the entrance to the then Ringhoffer factories was located. His workers joined the uprising and many of them fell on the Prague barricades or were executed by the Nazi aggressors.

In addition to the national holiday “Victory Day” (May 8), this year the first days of May also mark the 105th anniversary of the tragic death of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, one of the founders of the Czechoslovak Republic (May 4).
