Starting price CZK 100. The Czech Republic is awaiting the first auction of free domains

The association planned the first auction for May 16, however, the auction system has been running in public test mode since the beginning of May.

For example, the domains samsungvefirme.cz, zlatojezlato.cz, aqair.cz or nemovitostipribramsko.cz will be offered in the auction. The starting price for each domain is 100 crowns.

Bidders can bid using minimum bids that increase with the current winning amount, or they can bid to set their maximum, which is hidden from others, and the auction system then bids the optimal winning minimum for them.

Auctions will be held regularly every day from mid-May, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

By introducing auctions, CZ.NIC is changing the existing rules and procedures. “This step means that canceled or expired domains are no longer available for free registration. These domains have already started to appear in the list of domains intended for auctions,” said Martin Peterka, operations director of the CZ.NIC association.

However, the subject of the auction of released domains will always be the priority right to register them, not the domain itself. The successful bidder can then exercise this preferential right at any commercial registrar where he registers the domain name.

Bidders can be natural persons who have a verified MojeID account for electronic identification purposes or have an electronic identity of another member state of the European Union, or legal entities who have a validated MojeID contact.

Last year, the number of registered Internet domains with the Czech national ending .cz increased by 2.7 percent to 1.46 million. On average, 17,193 domains were registered per month.
